Evening all There’s a lot on here about luggage but I can’t find anything specifically about a late model 1050RS. I’m looking for panniers and top box for my speed triple. Any recommendations? Looking for a size that’s good enough for a long weekend for one person. Thinking racking as well or whatever’s required really. Any ideas? Many thanks
I have the sw motech top box (givi v56) and slc side carrier set (with urban cases. Nice bits of kit. All pics and instructions are on the sw motech website. Downside? A bit pricey.
I use the SW Motech Daypack tank bag with quick lock as well. More than enough room for day/weekend trips.
Thanks all for your feedback. Much appreciated. I was tempted to buy a mile mucher (VRF800 or Sprint type thing) for a couple of grand but then calmed myself down, so don’t mind spending some decent money on some decent kit. Sc-moto looks great.
An alternative to conventional panniers/top box maybe the Ventura kit from the guys in NZ https://ventura-bike.com/
Hmm houston we might have a problem. I've been looking at the recommendations. All good. Just wondering about the fitting. I no longer have the arrow cans (got the low slung SC Projects) and have also removed the rear pegs and brackets. Do they connect to either of these? I can always put the rear pegs back on when we go on the trip, but ideally wouldn't as its a faff!
Hi Rimbo another alternative is the hepco and becker sport rack, it replaces the pillion seat, so you can attach any type of soft luggage, kriega, sw motech, jofama, held tail packs. I tour europe with a 35 litre sw motech hip bag and drybag 350. hope it helps.
Hi Rimbo, Like Baza, I personally love the Ventura luggage gear it’s very pricey to buy new so what I did was scour eBay or other selling sites I think I bought a set of fireblade brackets and had them re-fabricated to fit my speed triple r 2018 I paid about £100 for the lot you might be lucky and get the proper fitment brackets for your specific bike but you should be able to buy the lot and get it modified. Good luck.
Which is exactly what I’m in the process of doing. I originally bought my Ventura kit new in 2012 to fit my Ducati and I’m now in the process of making bespoke fixings for the L brackets to fit my Street Triple R. Front fixing already sussed using the rear fixing point for the pillion footrests which I have now removed (but not necessary for this to work) . The rear fixing is going to be more involved because of the way that the tail stalk fits into the recess in the undertray, but doable me finks. Will post photos when sorted but this is where it will sit on the machine. One thing to be wary of if buying used kit is that the A frame, grab handle and sports rack fittings have altered in width since buying mine. The bags will fit either version but new top bits won’t fit old L brackets. For those not familiar with this system the A frame complete with “shelf” rack can be fitted with the “shelf” to the rear when two up. Or if you have two bags they can be zipped together with one fore and one aft of the A frame, and they come with straps enabling use as a rucksack.
Yeah baza im lucky enough to know a fabricator nearby who did my mods But like you say it’s the L brackets that are most important to get right. I bought a couple or three bags 2 of which I can zip together but I usually find that the aero spada bags sufficient which has 50ltr capacity which is plenty enough space for a long weekend away Quick look on eBay and I found these L brackets for half the money
I have the Euro Spada and their tank bag. Have now sussed the rear bracketry which involves a SS plate sandwiched between the tail assembly and the undertray, countersunk screwed to the plate which takes the four small fixing bolts.
