Just about to order up the triumph heated grips for the RS, anyone else fitted these themselves? is it easy enough to do? just from previous experience of ordering triumph parts they tend not to come with any instructions. I was originally planning to put a spare set of oxford grips that i had on, but as the rubber grip could not be easily removed from the throttle tube decided probably best to just get the official ones. cheers
I've done it on my RS. The hardest issue is routing the wires. Took me a bit but my method, in the end, was to use a fishing line tied on a thin 18 gauge electrical wire pushed through the hole in the middle of the bars towards the end. Then remove the wire (used only to guide the fishing line, not for use on the bike) and tie the fishing line to the wiring from the grips and pull it through carefully.
cheers, sounds fiddly, and the sort of thing I would swear a lot while doing. I will make sure I give myself a few hours to fit!
Those were indeed my thoughts as I was doing it - I am a DIY guy though and the thought of paying a dealership $90 an hour (and they quoted me 2 hours shop time) just to fit them... yea.... no. I figured it out, they are excellent and I don't regret it for a second.
Instructions can be found here: https://www.triumphinstructions.com/ just put the part no in. Not a particularly tricky job to do and they work well
A word to the wise, start by taking off the right hand side radiator housing so that you can access the connector on the loom. Test the whole kit before you fit it in case of any defects. It can be a right PITA to remove it if one grip fails to work, don't ask me how I know this...
finally had time to install this weekend. was very straight forward with the instructions provided. Had to use some electrical wire to thread the left hand wires, but right hand made its way through on its own. the loom connector just twists out of its holder so no need to remove the housing. I am very happy with them, look great and work a treat, love the integration with the dash... although doubt ill be out on the triple much until the new year now as salt is already on the roads.
Hi I’m just about to order a set of Triumph heated grips for my ST ‘S’ 2019 ... how easy is it to remove the throttle grip? I’ve already read the fitting instructions but it just states refer to the service manual ? Cheers HP
insert a screw driver, spray some WD40 or anything equivalent along the gap (the small spraying straw might help), and the throttle grip slips away without effort.
I have heated grips installed from factory (I optioned them). I have related question: I have noticed that I am already wearing out the rubber on left handle, are these rubbers replaceable or do I have to buy a new set of heated grips?
i cannot say for certain, but from what i recall when installing they are just one piece, so very much doubt can just replace the rubber outer.
