A quick footnote, when assembling the shaft, the end spring needs to cross over to be tensioned.

The cost for parts is £180
    Here is the parts list.
Ignore the knock back boot, that's a cover for the base of my mirror ☺️

I will report back later on the road test, as I have decided to do the coolant change while on the bench, and that's more work than the gearbox Lol
I hope that this helps people out, sorry if it's a little disjointed, but it's tricky on a little phone for old sausage fingers!

I should be able to test ride next week after the weekend, desperate to try it but life and work keeps getting in the way

Finally I have just had chance to carry out a road test!
I am happy to report great success, the gear change is nice and positive, no missed gears, and no false neutral.
If I was being really picky, I would say that there is a bit of a clunk sometimes when selecting 4th at low speed short shifting, but this I believe to be because of the shaft drive not being as forgiving as chain, plus I was deliberately looking for trouble.
    So definitely a worthwhile fix.

Cracking write up to a well known problem area for Explorers. Thanks for sharing such detail. :)

Thanks Tel, I hope it will help others to do the fix themselves.

Superb mate - think about the labour charge you've saved, not to mention the lessons learnt and taught to the forum. Thanks again
