Hello everyone I am new on this site and I have done my introductions on the welcome forum ;-) I am considering to purchase a 2011 Speed Triple 1050. Looking to spend maximum of £5,500. I live in Hertfordshire and I am off to the Hemel dealer today to do a test ride on a 2014 Triple. I have been riding sports bike for the last 10+ years. I am 41 and I think it's time to give up the 1000cc rocket ships and have fun on a sit upright bike and some class to go with it. Currently I am riding a GSXR 1000 K6. I am not sure what to expect with the Triple 1050. My riding is weekend blasts through countryside twistys and then off to central London to meet the boys for a coffee. I don't commute on bike, so this would be weekend blasts. I have read and watched a lot of reviews and all seems positive. I was contemplating on a KTM 990 Superduke and then my height put me off :-(. I am only 5"6. Would any of you be able to kindly point me to what I should be looking for and anything I should watch out for on a 2011 Triple 1050. Thanking you all kindly
If you need it, lowering is relatively easy and cheap. http://www.motorcyclelowering.co.uk/triumph-lowering-kit/speed-triple?product_id=97 2011 - was start of changes from round to Dame Edna lights along with other style changes and a slight engine update with a bit more power. Personally I think the Speed3 is better suited to road riding than a race rep so I think you'll enjoy. Slightly less power but more usable. Pretty reliable bike, not sure there's anything specific to look out for outside the usual stuff, obviously a dry roads only bike would be best (but no real corrosion problems, may be paint on engine casings if not looked after).
I have been in your situation before owning blades , r6 etc .I probably go quicker on my speed and have more fun in the process . It also helps me keep my licence as sustained speeds over 90 mph are not very pleasant on my neck ! I still ride with mates on there sports bikes and my bike is never a limiting factor , loads of torque coming out bends and easy to throw about with the wide bars . I think the bike feels heavy when stationary but not on the move and is super stable on bends , I have used the bike on trackdays also and is superb fun and comfy for hours on end , go for it , you wont regret it .
Ditto...... just bought a pretty immaculate 2011.....low mileage and I went on looks as its never seen rain .... great upgrade from rocket ships.... you shouldn't regret the move and there are tons out there so take your time and don't rush buy......
The speedy is a great set of wheels I'm sure you will not regret it. I am a similar height and can get the balls of both feet down.....on level ground, don't park with a dip anywhere or the bike may end up on the ground
Thank you soooooo much on your prompt replies. I went for a blast today on a 2014 standard 1050 triple. Lovely bike with amazing handling. Like some of you said I felt I was going a lot quicker than on my Gixer. I hardly had to touch the brakes. The torque is very addictive. I have 5,500 pounds. I am keeping an eye out for 2012 model with low mileage and an aftermarket underseat exhaust to go with. Do you think it's achievable with my budget. Manythanks
Hi I'm also new to the forum. Just bought a 2012 Speed Triple 1050R with lots of upgrades (Arrows, carbon bits, cowl and screen, levers etc etc) and 7k miles and it was £7500 If you get a standard one then you might just make it but "R" models seem to be a bit more when I was looking Cheers Steve
Typo error. Sorry I am looking for a 2011 model for £5,500 with an aftermarket exhaust. I saw a 2011 model with 13,300 on the clock with 3 in 1 Arrow exhaust. He dropped in on the side and it has slight scuffings on the engine case other than no marks anywhere else. He wants 5,750. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/triumph/speed-triple-1050/7668278/ Cheers
that sounds pretty good for a 2011,there's no mention of scuffs in the advert so it must be very minor you would probably be able to touch up the scuffs, have you offered him £5,500, he might accept for a quick cash sale
just noticed the scuffs in the other pictures,it doesn't look to bad,you could just touch it up yourself and if it's still noticeable you could get it repainted later
I have offered him 5,500. He is happy to accept 5750. Is the 3in1 Arrow exhaust any good in these bikes. I prefer the underseat twin exhaust personally. I can always change these later on I guess.
Same money,lower milage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-S...703309?hash=item2ef2c8378d:g:cYQAAOSw9NdXqQeN Or this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2011-11-T...964395?hash=item54361a942b:g:V-YAAOSw6n5XrnAo
Better ones out there for the money... Sorry but 13k scratched casings and you wanting possible high level zortz 5250 would be my offer ?? Check valve service 12k has been done ?
That first one looks good Tim,i thought it was the older model but i notice he has the original dame edna lights, and those exhausts look good
Thank you so much for all of your support. I do like red one. I noticed his one has a hole (possible damage? )on rad guard. If it's OK n if he can agree on a price then I'm happy to become proud owner of speed triple I saw this one and the best he can offer me is 5900 http://m.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html It does look good with all the bits
Sorry people I seem to be taking too much of your time and feel embarrassed about it. If I am to buy a standard 2011 with low mileage, how much would it cost me to install a decent exhaust. Do these bikes come with cat. If I'm to go the route to get a half system to get rid of the cat n have the ecu tuned...how much am I looking at? Thank you so much for your support
Arrows and Akrapovic are expensive, £1000+ Been looking at 'SC projects' http://www.sc-project.com/indexhome_eng.htm €640 for 2011 triple
