Hi I am looking for some advice when my bike is first started it runs fine, but when it is hot in low revs it is like kangaroo petrol. I have used a fuel additive but it hasn,t made any difference I would be greatfull for any input.Regards Robert
Welcome to the forum Rob. You're not using that new'Buckaroo' Australian petrol are you ? lol It's either your ignition timing that is slightly out or your carburation. A good clean out of the carbs would be my first task.
Hi Rob, you're not trying to run too slow in to high a gear are you? At what revs do you normally change gear when you're going up the 'box 12,3,4, etc
it is not that as it happens in 1st gear plus when it is hot it doesn't tick over very well and often cuts out
Sounds like the crank position sensor is failing. If the bike runs ok when cool but starts to play up when hot and then runs ok again again when left to cool down somewhat, then it will almost certainly be the cps. This is not an unknown fault apparently.
I have studied the Haynes manual for my bike and can't find any mention of a crankshaft position sensor for this model
You could try looking for ignition sensor ........ part no 5 on the drawing ...... http://www.worldoftriumph.com/trium...block_01=&block_02=304600-2-2&block_03=132106
BUT ... don't pay their prices. Have a look at www.triumphparts.gbr.cc where they are MUCH cheaper. Also check out www.squaredeals-ltd.co.uk as an alternative source of bits 'n' bobs - although not, it would seem - crank position sensors! Or did I miss them??
Do you know where to locate the cps on the bike and is there a simple test which can be done to see if it is faulty
Small black wire exiting clutch cover at about 1 o'clock position (ish!), then running back behind the breather pipe toward the air filter box. Don't know of a specific test to check its health, but I guess that checking the connections etc wouldn't hurt.
Never had to do it on mine (kiss of death there!) but it seems probably more fiddly than difficult. But you need to leave an air gap between the rotor and the pick up itself - according to Mr Haynes Book of Fairy Tales that should be 0.6 to 0.8 mm - it says here!
As tonight was the first dry night we have had all week I went out and tried to locate the cps then noticed the breather pipe was not connected to the air box so I fixed this and wonder if this could have been the problem all along
