I do make a few exceptions i use Boyer ignition as i can't be arsed to set up the twin points any longer and i use Hastings or Gozet rings.
Ha Ha sensible mods darkman. I have electronic ignitions on my triples as there is no way I could be arsed setting three lots of points, 2 is too many
Points are great from a get you home point but i found i was becoming more n more anal about the advance/retard of each set of points that i was spending hours getting it perfect lol. I have left the condensers in place under the tank and when someone says ah you still have points i just nod n smile.
Today i have stripped some wheels so i can send off the original rims and all the other parts for chroming, repaired and reshaped the seat base to work with the NOS hinges and an original S/H seat sponge
I like the look of the earlier hinges , mine on the 69 were pita to sort . To be fair was probably the result of new wassel seat pan ended up cu and shutting them . I still need to do slight adjustment . One thing I have learnt over the years mainly on cars is getting the correct fit is key to perfect outcome . Time spent early on as you know is key . Great job , I should have a number plate by now . Bike was inspected by Dvla Subbi whilst I have been away on holiday , on two wheels not engine powered sadly . But looking forward to proper test run when I get back . Good job fella and a bench mark for any restorer professional or not . In fact better that’s why I take note of the knowledge and detail . .
Managed to get the crankcases welded where the rear chain had beaten its way through and striped the head only to find a broken valve guide :-( new guides on order and more pics to follow.
Dirty work time, its wet n cold today and i got a sweat on preparing these 66 cases lol polishing next.
Another step forward cases all blasted and cleaned out with the 66 T120, new rods n shells fitted along with new bearings cams and breather valve.
Todays little job poping gearbox back together with new bearings inc needle rollers and thrust washers, first gear bronze bush was messy so fitted a new one and all ready for indexing and outer covers next.
Few more little jobs done in between prepping frame for paint i managed to index the gear selector and middle cover along with setting up the cam gears.
At last the easy bit has arrived as nearly all the prep work is done and i can start the final build of shiny bits.
