    Just changed my plates.....

Took all of 20 minutes.... I've had my engine covers off so much it's like an F1 pitstop now :D

Actually had some oil inside my clutch hub wooo hooo modded pin is working

Inner and outer plates had oil on them but middle ones were dry still...think the sticking is stopping the oil getting in a bit

Anyway new EBC's are in ( after a 3 hour soak as recommended on the back of the box before I get prophecies of apocalypse and devil guinea pigs coming to nibble me to death for my heathen acts)

The EBC's are a lot different....they have a lot bigger friction pad width and less gaps between the pads....

Let's see how they go !

Running my plates for a few days now and while better I'm still getting a bit of drag and clunky changes now and then...

Steel plates got delivered today so I'll throw them in tomorrow morning before work, the steels had some blueing when I first had the clutch apart so possibly warped a bit ?

Who knows....if this doesn't work im just gonna ride it till the gearbox grenades itself as there is nothing else I could try :D

Been running my new fibre plates, steel plates and updated Triumph clutch pin with Silkolene Fully Synth PRO 4 10w40 for around a couple of months now and still getting drag and sticking plates :(

As every attempt for help from triumph was met with ' Take it to one of our dealers for an inspection' which is Hinckley code for ' If you give us some money' I contacted someone at EBC who has helped me out before and explained the situation and this was his reply...

We don’t recommend the use of a fully synthetic oil – normally it causes slip problems but it could also cause them maybe to stick together as oil might not drain completely off the plates. Years ago I had a Suzuki GT500 X5 and used Bel Ray synthetic gear oil and same thing every morning the plates stuck together – so when you put the bike into gear it would shoot forward and stall, changed to normal mineral oil and problem went away.

Think I might try some mineral or semi synth.....

    Hi Jody,

So, a year down the line... do you still have the bike? Did you try semi synthetic oil? Did you ever solve the dragging issue?

Hi all, new here, but found this thread the other eve while Google searching for answers to the tight gearbox problem, it being almost impossible to find neutral whilst stationary and clutch drag.

I've a 2011 1050 Speedie, currently just over 18,000 miles, which I bought 3 years ago with about 9,000 miles on it. It lives on its side-stand in my workshop, I don't get out enough on her because of work pressures and I do all my own maintenance.

Anyway after reading about the mod to the clutch puller pin I decided to try the same, although I tried to replicate the spiral on the modified Triumph part, rather than putting a flat on the pin. I also ground a small groove at the end of the two spirals where they meet the shoulder to allow the oil to not only find its way along the pin but also escape into the inside of the clutch hub. Then I doubled the number of 3mm holes already drilled in the hub which will allow the extra oil to escape from inside the hub and lubricate the clutch plates.

I did a 110 mile jaunt last night and the clutch didn't have any slip or drag, finding neutral was much much easier, almost perfect, whether rolling or stationary and down changing through all the gears was much easier as well.

In the past I had found down changes couldn't be rushed, like I can on my GSX-R1100, but I had to go through a conscious procedure of clutch lever fully in, change gear whilst blipping, clutch out. Any attempt to change as fast as I can on my GSX-R, or with the clutch not fully pulled meant crunched gears. Not last night. I shall continue to monitor and report if I find it reverts to the old quality.

    Paul
