My headwear of choice of course has to match the bike that I choose to ride on any given day.....Helmut is the same . I am sure it's not just us . My choice of headgear I would say is bright and lairy, not subtle....Helmut's choices are much classier . Street Triple: Fireblade: Hyperstrada (no action shot available ): This thread has made me realise that all of them need a good deep clean, they're looking a bit like the insect - killing items they truly are . Anyone else care to share their headgear / motorcycle combos? .
Ok, seeing as you asked so nicely @Mrs Visor and hopefully it's OK with @Helmut Visor , here you go. Not so much fashion, more function in my/our case, not all mine. I do like that first pic of your Shoei design.
I wouldn't want to monopolise your thread mrs.visor ( Plus what the Mrs doesn't know I have is better on my ears)
For on road, Shoei Neotec 2.... For off road, HJC HQX..... Had numerous replicas in the past, Lawson, Abe, Joey Dunlop plus a few standard colours but I'm more of a practical guy now and find the Neotec a superb helmet. Comfortable, good ventilation and the practicality of a built in sun visor and flip front which is great for eating a quick snack, drinking a quick coffee or just shouting obscenities at other road users. The HJC is so light I swear it would blow away in a strong wind! I've kept my previous (black) flip Schuberth C3 Pro for occasional green laning use when the weather is bad but I will never buy another black helmet for road use. In hot weather, especially in traffic it's like sticking you head on the BBQ.
Now I feel so boring - just a plain white LS2 Strobe with the Civic pattern...... a few black lines. I still like it though!
I agree entirely about the black I have a couple of Matt black shark helmets but haven't had them long enough to actually encounter the heating myself I don't understand my brother everything he owns is black the only bit of colour he wears is when his clothes have been continually washed and gone grey I would never buy a plain white helmet though as in the past it has given me the appearance of having a big head it's the same with trainers white make my feet look bigger unless it's just my eyes
Another thing that just came to mind is while on the subject of helmets well really it's something Mrs visor originally said about choosing the helmet that suits or goes with the colour of the bike well I did things about face I bought the Thunderbird to go with a new open face helmet I bought a while ago
Great thread, @Mrs Visor! I only have the one bike but as I have six helmets I thought I'd clarify what they are (see the pic below). The two on the right are both Hedon Hedonist 2s that I managed to snag in their sale - I think they were about 40% off the ridiculously high list price of £540 at the time. They're lovely things that I wear a lot when I'm pottering about, and to my mind they're perfect for the Bonnie. To the left of them is another Hedonist, but this one has a bit of a story. I actually won it from the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride a few years ago, having somehow managed to join the prizewinners that year for the most funds raised. From memory I was 4th highest in London,10th in the UK and 90th globally. Next to that and fourth from the right is a Shoei JO. It's a bit more protective than the Hedons (albeit still open face) with a built in visor/sun guard. It's also very comfortable indeed. Then my two full face Arais... The top one is an Axces 3 - the first helmet I bought back in 2018 and, though fairly basic in terms of tech, still the most comfortable helmet I've owned. Feels lovely and light too. Finally, a Concept XE - bought just a few weeks ago as I felt like I needed something newer and higher spec (it's actually the same helmet as the Rapide, but Arai were forced to change the name). Not quite as comfortable as I'd like (particularly after installing my Cardo system), but I'm sure that with a bit of wear the lining/pads will shape to my head a bit more and it'll be fine. I did have to buy smaller cheek pads, though - I'm between a small and a medium with Arai but with this one the medium was just a touch to big.
And here's tonight's purchase for me after my youngest decided he needed a new helmet. My current one seemed the sensible solution It's a good upgrade for him, although it did create another expense for me but I at least then get a fresh one And he doesn't buy junk The lads LASER helmet, earlier picture in the thread ( post #4), is now 6 years old yet my Arai was under 2.
Oh dear am feeling poor now only have the one helmet and that's now scrap of course for the replacement am thinking to go a little more up market than the LS2 Rapid 11 Circuit, that is a lower priced helmet, that needs replacing now it did it's job and protected the ole noggin ........................... an no the blow or blows did not drive any sense in and till going to ride and still get another bike to replace the Ducati Monster . Am planning on making a trip into the city to visit the bike shop and peruse the offerings had a look a their online shop but need to actually try for fit the LS2 hurt my ears after a while and I found it very noisy and no I do not want to wear ear plugs. What ever I get will be fairly bright certainly not black something that will suit what ever colour the bike the Triumph is Merlot Red the bike I am eyeing up is Blue. The shop has Shoei GT Air 2 at a reduced price still that is at least 5 times more than the LS2 cost me . Plezier
Shame you not in the UK I recently bought an AGV K1 sv for under £100 nice comfortable lid but I've got a couple of shark helmets and they too are a great fit and some models come in around the £100 Mark as they are always on offer somewhere, Nitro worst fit I've ever had because of the way my size was so tight the next couple I bought not Nitro though I went a size up which I never needed to do also MT are very reasonable priced helmets Ride had one on test recently and for the price couldn't find many negatives with it but I suppose it's down to availability for you over there but I had a Shoei many years ago and I couldn't get on with it must be my head shape as most people rate them but the secret if you can try as many on as you can
Yeah one drawback here is the lack of some things there must be other motorcycle shops about have found a scooter shop but when I went to have a look it was not actually right then it's like being back in the 60's or 70's UK I remember the first superbike shop being the Heron Suzuki Center in Horley Surrey next town toe LGW (Gatwick Airport) and of course John Brown Wheels in Croydon bought my first helmet a white riffing open face at the motor bike show at Earls Court my next one also open face a orange Owen from the Kawasaki Center at Lowfield Heath ( right next the the airport) then my last one from Northeast's in Horley a Honda dealer that was the Centurion Firebird full face both the Owen and the Centurion were fibreglass. This is where I got my helmet from here:- https://ml-racing.bg/ They are the official LS2 distributer I believe and they do carry quite few helmets on display when I go am going to try the Nolan's and if they have the right size available the Shoei and maybe more expensive LS2 see if it feels any different from my entry level one they have other makes as well. It really shocked me with the prices I still think about the £6-£12 gloves bought from Northeasts when I was 20 years old I think the Griffin was all of £7 the Owens about £15 funny thing is cannot recall the Firebirds price but it was on offer. American dealers would go nuts over how long a bike can stay on sale here but there is not the population to cater to the sales they would expect for example OK it's a used bike but in May 2024 I looked at a Ducati Monster 750 at a dealers in Sofia the capital and I see that it is still for sale though they have dropped the price now they would not entertain a lower price back then if they had been more helpful I would have bought it they now have it even lower than I offered.
