    Hi,

Since 2 months ago my speedmaster 865 from 2007 runs on one cilinder sometimes. This I frixed due to replacing the CDI. It runs on two cilinders now, but sometimes during a ride the engine stothers and come to a stand still. It doesn't start directly, but after waiting a while and starting it again, it runs. A Triumph mechanic advised me that maybe the pick up coil is also failing. I decided to have a look and removed the engine cover of the electrical coil where the pick up coil is situated. When I removed the cover I freaked out. The whole chamber was covered with oil. This quite explains the periodic stand stills of the engine, because of an oil film between the pick up and the Altinator. Now it starts and runs fine, but I didn't drove iot yet. I cleaned it and want to do a short ride to see how much oil is leaking, but to be honnest I need to fix this. Is there an oil seal behind the altinator on the Crankshaft. I can't find the partno on any parts site?? Or is the sealing between the Cranckshaft and the electrical compartrment otherwise solved. I hope someone knows

    regards Erwin

Are you sure you're not worrying about something that is normal?
I don't have an 865 but this video on a T100 pick up coil did have quite a bit of oil in there

plus I just checked a thread on the same subject on triumph rat and they suggested it is normal to have oil there.

My 2002 T300 trophy had some oil in the casing where the pick up sensor is when I replaced it (it has a separate alternator unlike the 865).
