Why are you giving Boris a kicking? Or maybe you think there is somebody out there who could be doing a better job giving the current shit storm we are living through....
It doesn't bear thinking about what the present situation would have been like if Corbin, Macdonald and the Abbot had been in charge.
If you were in the middle of some negotiations which were slightly important, and the other party were being particularly intransigent wouldn't you use any "threats" you could to gain an advantage? Much as some bloke called Michel Barnier was doing for the EU?
Or Trump..... Oh, wait! I know what the present situation is with Trump being in charge until less than a month ago. And it's not good.
I think it’s fear rather than arrogance Tom. They are in a bloody deep hole, and don’t know when to stop digging.
Good news that over half a million were vaccinated in the U.K. yesterday, another step towards freedom.
Captain Tom Moore. Is fighting Covid,I 'm sure we all wish him well in yet another fight he faces. XX https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-55881508
Hopefully Brexit will push Brussels to have a better think at their actions. As most of the contributors on this thread are from UK, let me give an inside view from France. EU decision on vaccine is also massively blamed. Macron with his failed attempt to promote Sanofi is also pointed. Had a phone call yesterday with a German friend of mine, and the main feeling about EU regarding vaccine supply is similar. Angela Merkel is also pointed because she is the one that pushed to order vaccine for EU as a whole with rebates. EU severely outdid, this is not to be questioned. From that to think other countries will leave, it's a bit anticipated. EU certainly need to change their actions. For France or Germany leaving EU would bring absolutely no gain. You would be surprised by the Frexit party profiles in France. They are a very little minority, all far right with lots of conspiracy elements in their talk. Not really constructive people, but that is anecdotal.
IMHO, it's unlikely other countries will start an exit process from EU. Poland is currently leaning into a very conservative politic behavior, but they can't trade enough outside EU. UK was different from the start. They joined EU almost only for trading purpose. And even considering that, the exit was really disputed. As you say, time will tell. To come back to the thread, EU showed it's inertia to make a decision. Do you know that Moderna boss is french? He proposed the RNA first to the french government, they didn't answered. US have the best vaccine from a company led by a frenchman. How ironical
It's know since yesterday. Yes it's frustrating. In another hand, France did very well on the lockdown and prevention. We have "only" 75000 covid victims. If they could have been that efficient on vaccine..
Same here. At the beginning of the pandemic, the epidemiologist planned 30 000 death for a country like France/UK, seemed already huge at the time... See now.
Yes on vaccine, no doubt. At the start of the pandemic UK was late on the first lockdown decision. I think something like 10 days after France. I remind we were in lockdown, and my daughter in UK was still working on live concerts Difficult to blame here or there. That stuff was new, no one knew what would be the best decision to make. On vaccine it's different, EU poor management is clearly to blame. My mother in law is 85, and still on waiting list for the jab.
Very early last week I received a text inviting me to get my first Covid vaccination at my local hospital. I followed the link, booked an appointment and had my vaccination last week. Five days after receiving the text I received a letter which invited me the get my first vaccination at my local hospital, the letter was a copy of the text I’d received earlier that week. Monday just gone I received a phone call this time from my gp’s surgery inviting me for my first vaccination. Today I received a different letter inviting me to book my first vaccination, the nearest location was 15 miles away. So all in I could have had four 1st vaccinations
