Hi I'm David, I ride a 2013 Tiger 800. I have been reading about benefits of having the correct suspension set up so I have tried to adjust the preloaded screw on the rear shock & can't turn it with a screwdriver. If I put a socket onto it it will turn (quite stiff) but doesn't click as it says in the handbook. Am I doing anything wrong? Will turning this nut have any effect & if I can't hear any click, how much should I turn this nut?
Be careful, they have been known to shear!! Mine doesn’t click so I just go on the number of turns, I think it’d something to do with the age of them, I picked up a tool that attaches to the adjuster that makes it easier, can’t find where I got it from.
David Moore. Welcome to the family. Suspension tricky old stuff. Make sure your adjuster has not got a grub screw in it first. Then rise and test solo till you are happy. Mark with a dot of paint. again two up mark with two dots. Job done. Next hit the upload button bottom right corner and show the inmates the steed in question. Regards & Ride safe. Joe.
Hi David, and welcome in This may help with the setup once you've sorted out your adjuster issue https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/suspension-setup-a-simple-guide-to-help-you.18373/
This is the tool I bought, it was around a tenner, I can’t remember where I got it from tho. Stays on permanently with 3 grub screws. If I find the link I’ll send it to you.
Found one on ebay but couldn’t get the address but here’s som pics, I’m assuming it’s the same size, but more expensive tho
I may have one hidden away somewhere from off my Gen1 Tiger 800 that I p/x for a gen3 Tiger 800. They are a aftermarket tool made by someone on the Tiger 800 forum.
Thanks everyone for the welcome & the advice. A good excuse to spend another day tinkering with the Tiger....
