Just finished painting my 2013 TEX with sidecare. Ran fine when taken down to paint. Been apart for a couple of months. Gas that had been in it was treated. We have no ethanol in our fuel in Alaska. Fuel I put back in had been stored since September but had been treated. The bike will turn over just fine and sounds like it wants to start. It fires for just a second but won't run. I have attempted to let the pump prime several times before turning it over with no success. All the hoses are connected and none are pinched - that I can see without removing the tank. Also: even though the tank is full it registers empty. I'm in a remote location with no access to a dealer. So could really use some help here!
The tank will register empty till you run it a mile. Tech help forum has a sticky about bikes that don't start
I know that with generation1 Tiger 800’s which includes year 2013 that if your headlight is not working then the bike won’t start. Maybe the Tex is the same,,,is your headlight working.
Light work. Going to measure fuel pressure later today. Luckily I have a fuel pressure testing kit. The injectors work and are clean and there are no blocked or clogged lines. So even though I can hear the pump pressure up it must not be making enough pressure. It it is then I'll be back in Mysteryville.
Tank definitely won’t register proper fuel level until it’s been run a while. Since you took the tank off to be painted have you left anything in that might be blocking a fuel pipe or pump
Anticipating that I made sure to blow out all the fuel lines, remove the pump and check the filter screen. This afternoon I put my fuel pressure tester on it and found the pump was only making 8psi. It should be making 50.6 or 3.5bar. So I guess I have found the problem. The fact that you can hear the pump run when you turn the key on is no guarantee all is well. I'll remove the fuel sending unit when I take the pump out just to give it a good inspection and perhaps cleaning. The Triumph manual shows that just the float can be removed and replaced but I can't find just a float anywhere on the net. You have to buy the whole unit. I'll go with the comment one of you made regarding the sensor not showing anything for a mile or so. Mine has always indicated the level after start up. If nothing else I have gotten intimately familiar with the tank and tupperware removal and replacement procedure. It's a pain with the sidecar -
PS: I did go through the "checklist" Thanks for pointing me to it. It mostly deals with the charging and starting system. I had no problems the checklist mentioned. I recommend that if you do a lot of your own mechanical work you invest in a fuel pressure gauge kit. Had I used mine when I first suspected pressure could be the problem I would have saved my starting system a lot of cranks and myself a lot of time and frustration. You do not need to buy the special fuel hoses in the Triumph manual. a few clamps and some hose and you can make your own. Besides they are a LOT easier to get on and off the fuel barbs than the factory types. Thanks for the replies and I hope my situation helps someone else.
I'm about to eat crow - So I got my new pump and installed it. Put the tank on, checked all the hoses and connectors, fueled it up thinking "Now it's going to fire up and I'll be in business" Turned on the key, heard the pump pressure up, hit the start button, turned over briskly, almost thought it was going to start for about a half second and we are right back where I started. Pump pressures up, engine spins over great, sounds like it's going to start but then just keep on cranking after a few pops. Unless I'm about to blow my machine up I'm going to try spraying some starter fluid into the intake. If it fires and runs for a couple seconds I'll know I'm not getting any action out of the injectors - which I suspect. What could cause that if they work when out of the bike and connected to jumper wires. They spray a nice fuel pattern as well so must be clean. ?????
Just make sure you haven’t trapped and kinked the fuel tank breather hose when you put the tank back on. Try starting it with filler cap open.
