Leaking Oil...only 300 Miles

Hi all

Pick up my new Speed RS on Saturday and have covered just 300 miles. On returning home this evening noticed that oil was leaking from the seal around where the two half of the motor join. Unfortunately the Triumph dealer was closed so called a mate who knows a think a two about engines and he asked me to check the two bolts that clamp the engines together.....to my amazement they were not that tight. This might also explain the buzzing feeling the bike has been going since i picked it up....very vibie through the bars.

Any ideas guys.....clearly I will be ring Triumph in the morning.

 

yes mate, just worried if it could have damaged the engine.

 

Won't do head gasket much good. Maybe even cause warpage. Back to the dealer post haste.......

 

I would be asking for a replacement bike

You tell them what YOU want - it's a major investment and the dealership should respect that.

don't worry guys, thats the first thing i did, turned them tight and then turned them back to where they were.

 

Looks like Triumph have some quality issues on the RS. I did 50 miles on mine and it went back with an oil leak. Cam cover gasket and also a very soft dipstick seal .. ok now but a disappointment on a new bike! Spoils the pleasure of buying a new bike ! Let's hope the big end bolts are tightened correctly !

The vibrations through the bars have got worse since i picked it up on Saturday.

 

They do vibrate but it's more above 6k revs though mine feels a bit rough around 3k and below too. I wrote this in another thread on vibration... But in the end I went and rode the demonstrator bike at dealers for comparison. It was the same as mine so decided they are like that. .yours may settle in a bit but may be worth riding a demo bike to compare and complain in writing to Triumph if it's wrong ! Especially with the oil leak issue.. since mine was fixed I have done 2500 miles some of them riding pretty hard and nothing else has gone wrong ... Yet .hope you get sorted successfully . The law is on your side with it being a new purchase and faulty ! Good luck !

Those hex head bolts are on the head gasket joint on the cam chain side. They won’t have a lot of torque in them so I wouldn’t be worried that the head gasket around the combustion chambers has suffered, just a bit of oil leaked from around the cam chain tunnel. Trouble is, as has been said has the gasket soaked up oil therefore losing its sealing qualities and are there any other loose bolts in there. Not good Triumph.

Oil has also leaked from the other side of the bike as well.

 

I know, I live less than 2 miles from the factory, and will have to take it back to Nottingham

 

Pidcock Triumph are collecting the bike on Friday morning.....only disappointing thing is they have no loan bikes available and refused to give me one of their demos. Which means no bike for a while

 

Reject the bike as this really is not good enough...
