Hi Everybody, I am Xavier and I am an alcoho... what? oh yes, wrong forum. After a life of sportsbikes and a year away from the big four O, I have finally given in and bought a tourer. A Sprint ST came up for sale last week at the right (read: very low) price. Its an 08, with ABS, heated grips and 23k miles. Suspension: It feels to me like the despite the low miles, it could really do with a forks service and a new rear shock. What do people tend to use in terms of spring rates and rear shock upgrades? is the original any good in which case I will get it serviced, or I am better of sourcing an aftermarket item? Other bits: this was very much an impulse purchase, so I know precious little. I want to stick fresh oil and filter in it and will need to work out what sort of servicing may be due on it. I don't even know what the intervals may be for the cam chain. it is chain driven right? Is there an online copy of the owners manual and or workshop manual somewhere? Lastly, I live in the Coventry area, does anyone have any recommendations for mechanics?
Welcome. If you want to ask any questions, go to your section in the main forum. Owners are more likely to hang around there, than be looking in the newbie section
Been meaning to pin a post at the top of newbie section for a while, just done it, so thanks for the inspiration.
They are the guys I use. I got my last two bikes through them and they were great. they didnt even take the piss when I complained something wasnt right after they rebuilt my shock. We wheeled the bike back in, they let me take it off and managed to keep a mostly straight face when they pointed out I had the triangular mount the wrong way around. Best thing is they didn't tell anyone, so no one knows.
Welcome to the forum mate. Google Triumph Owners manual - Triumph have an on-line download section. Fwiw I can recommend our workshop at Pure Triumph Woburn. Our GM builds race bikes and knows pretty much all there is to know about bikes, but it's Triumph rates. Whatever, ride down, have a chat and I'll make you a brew. If you wanna put some faces and bikes to user names and show us yours, some of the inmates and staff are allowed out once a year. This year we're going to Wales in July. Check it out. https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/grand-meet-up-2018-wales.12452/
Hi. Yeah these can come up at low prices. Change the fork oil, and you may want to add 10mm to each fork to loose the initial dive on applying the front brake. My GT rear does not rebuild but I spoke to the guy at Hagon and he recons that with constant riding the shocks can do many many miles. Its lay ups that cause issuses. If the cam needs serviced I think you would here it,Although go right ahead its all good, more important is the valve timings.Get a haynes manual they are invaluable. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/809508/Triumph-Sprint-St.html?page=92 Check your rear hub they can seize. http://www.bowl-of-mice.co.uk/ServiceJobs.html
