Well thighs actually! On my (brief) shakedown ride today things got a tad warm between the legs. Is it normal for the side panels where they meet tank and even the bottom sides of the tank itself to get hot? Not warm but hot ! Had a grope under the tank and the heat shield padding things are there. Could this be related to my oil light issue? Am I overheating without realising it? Fan cuts in, runs and switches off after a few minutes so presumably working correctly. No boiling noises or spewage of coolant. But seems too hot to be comfortable especially for a tourer.
Tank and adjoining man parts definitely cooler today - the solution - put petrol in the tank , and it stays nice and cool. So no need for the fuel gauge that doesn't work anyway, when bike and man parts begin to get hot, head for the nearest servo.
Wear a kilt for greater sensitivity/ fuel accuracy... I believe they make them in leather these days, so suitable for the bike!
Hi there, one of the main problems with heat on the legs is the bit of foam between the cylinder head and tank missing - I would check this first. The hot air will come out here rather than the fairing vents as its easiest route for it. You may have sorted but I have only just joined and am having a troll through
I have the same problem with my 2018 T100. It can burn my legs. Did you diagnose the issue our is it just a predictable result of riding in hot sunny weather? Did you come up with a fix?
Now that suburbanites have invaded my once country town, overheating has become more of a problem. Our city public works people are planting traffic signals at an alarming rate. You cannot ride across town to the hardware store or the doctor's office without sitting at idle at at least 6-8 traffic lights ! My old air cooled America can get kind of.warm in the summer months when it regularly hits over 100°f outside for.days.on end. ... If it gets really hot I park the air cooled and ride one of my water pumpers. At least. there is a radiator fan to keep the air moving. ...J.D.
My 2016 Sprint runs hot. Nice and toasty when the weather's a bit cooler, but not pleasant in summer.
Same in the UK - for some reason, every f*cking junction needs traffic lights or a roundabout (rotary to you I think). Mind you, most car drivers here are morons.
Here in the South-West part of the U.S. the expression used is "Traffic Circle" but you don't see too many of them here. Just straight through intersections mostly. I don't know why the authorities bother installing them (traffic signals) anyhow. People blast through them on the yellow all the time. Really need to be on your game riding in Southern California. Too many people here from all over the world that have no regard for traffic laws of any kind ...J.D.
Ha! Yes, we also have many Uber drivers from God knows where - I'm not even convinced most of them have passed a driving test!
As for the heat problem, it only seems to trouble my air cooled bike. My old 900 Sprint and my Legend don't seem to mind the heat that much. My solution on the America is both oil pressure and temperature gauges. Like this. If you wait until the oil light goes on the engine is already toast ! ...J.D.
