Hello folks, I own a new 2023 Bonneville T120, 750 miles (don't get out much). I got a recall notice from Triumph, notice SRAN627, Install Alternator Wire Alignment Clip. Seems some wires in the connector system could abrade and short (my interpretation). Celled my dealer and he indicated that the wiring area is behind the right upper removable plastic panel and behind the brake reservoir and that it would only take about 5 minutes to install the alignment clip. No engine disassembly. He would have to order the clip. My dealer is 60 miles away; so, I am investigating if I could do it myself. Has anyone attempted to remedy this situation themselves?? Any help would be appreciated. RickM46
Hi Rick, I would suspect that if you were to do the job yourself then the recall would be null and void and therefore any warranty would be invalid but you would need to get that confirmed through Triumph or possibly your dealer. To be fair 60 miles isn't very far to get it sorted and it would be free as it is a recall, just a good excuse for a ride out
Gentlemen, thanks for the advice!! Did a bit more research and found the following Service Bulletin on recall 627: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...UQFnoECBkQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0wl0qFsKFl_CdNWoUllW0I This SB shows how to install the clip; not too complicated. And then found where you can get the clip: https://www.triumphrat.net/threads/recall-sran627.1013267/ as the last post on the thread and from Fowlers Parts. Have not been able to get thru their website to find the clip.
@RickM46 Think you will find most of the dealers here are shut for the period and up till the new year. Fowlers are a big dealer here and like most dealers have had a bad year. Can you not email them as to the order.
Thanks Alfie, will take a look at part T2504846. Saw the part number in the service bulletin pdf; DOH https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...UQFnoECBkQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0wl0qFsKFl_CdNWoUllW0I Ordered the part from Fowlers; is Out of Stock; awaiting their response. Nonetheless, many thanks to the fellas on this website; will keep you up on my order.
One last thing in the SB; just noticed before mucking around with the electrical connectors, you must disconnect the battery!!
Just found another place that has the clip in stock: Total Triumph in UK, https://www.bike-parts-triumph.com/triumph-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/T2504846 Will see if Fowlers comes thru.
Well, to beat a dead???: I took a look at the 3 black alternator wires under the right side panel on my Bonnie; they go into a plug located at the exact bottom of the compartment and go to the right into the alternator; easily visible and easy to access; you can take a peek at the service bulletin link above to see a graphic of the wires and plug. These 3 black wires look to be at least 14 gauge - kinda big. The clip seeks to separate them better. I bet just a few short lengths of vinyl tubing on the wires up to within 5mm of the plug could do the same. Just sayin.
Thanks guys for all your help. Decided to order the clip and do the fix myself. Decided to test ordering it from Total Triumph and Fowlers, both in UK. Ordered clip from Total Triumph: part plus shipping $59.49, got here in about 10 days AND Clip from Fowlers: part plus shipping $18.04, got here in about 16 days. In next few days, will follow the service bulletin and do the install; quite cold here now; garage temp is about 38F inside.
"Ordered clip from Total Triumph: part plus shipping $59.49, got here in about 10 days AND Clip from Fowlers: part plus shipping $18.04, got here in about 16 days." Lesson learned? AFAIK TOTAL is a dealer, FOWLERS a distributor. That may, or may not, make a difference but that differential in price is outrageous. If you have problems in the future PM me and I'll see if it's easier/quicker/cheaper to order and tranship from here.
Got around to installing the clip using the installation instructions in the pdf above; not hard at all. Disconnected the +cable from the battery. Unfastened and moved the brake fluid reservoir out of the way and upright - you can't easily get at the connectors if you don't. You have to remove the alternator connector from its bracket (easy to do) and then unplug the connector into 2 halves by pressing a connector clip and nudging the plug apart with a flat blade screwdriver - comes apart easily. Slipping the clip in is easy with minor twisting of the plug to get the 3 wires to separate.
I might add that the 3 heavy gauge black wires going from the engine into the plug showed no signs of damage.
