I've noticed recently that I have a very slight/slow oil leak, with the oil collecting on the casing immediately below the site glass. The oil level doesn't appear to be affected in any tangible way, and it just needs a wipe when I start/get back from a ride. There's not enough oil escaping to leave a deposit on the floor of the garage, even when it's been standing for a week. I'm no mechanic and will book it in at Triumph for a repair. Any ideas what it might be, though?
You say it's collecting below the sight glass, is there any evidence of oil above the sight glass? if not it could be the sight glass seal weeping. Try cleaning that area and drying it then put a small amount of talcum powder or equivalent around the edge of the sight glass and see if there is any leak from there.
Two other places to look at 1, where the cables come out of the alternator crankcase cover just above and in front of the sight glass. The rubber grommets can weep, that'll be above right 2 take the sprocket cover off and have a good clean up behind there, sometimes crud and excess chain lube builds up and leaks out. that'll be above-ish left
Another place worth looking is the oil filler plug. My 2024 Aragon has weeped from there, but not enough to concern me. Tony
+1 on the source being the alternator lead gromet, especially with the history of insufficient sealing permitting the oil to migrate along the loom into the reg/rectifier unit (before dripping onto the floor) in models where it’s been positioned lower than the outlet point from the casework.
Not sure what year it is, but it could be spray build-up from your chain, and it is just now starting to melt off cause of heat from the engine.
Well, it turns out that it was actually the gear position switch. The O rings were changed, but in all likelihood the cause was an error on my part in substantially overfilling the bike with oil Anyway, lesson learnt and all sorted on the basis of goodwill by Lind Triumph (bless them).
