I'm slowly getting the T100 more to my liking.

One of the things, well two really, that have to go are the mirrors, far too sticky up for my liking.

I'm going to replace them with bar end mirrors and would welcome any experience people have doing this.

I've been in the garage this morning and had one of the current bar end caps off for a look and there is a solid but threaded bar end weight welded inside the bar.

This rules out the expanding bolt type mirrors due to the blockage so I'm looking for mirrors that bolt into the the thread on the existing weight.

Having had a look on fleabay and other sites prices vary in the extreme from £7 a pair to £70 each and all points in between.

On the basis that they stick out and might get scraped on walls and would be the first thing to hit the deck in the event of the bike getting dropped I might start out with a cheap pair and then move more upmarket.

Any suggestions, links to suitable mirrors and of pictures will be very welcome.

I agree there are loads out there, i went for these (see pic). Roughly £15, pretty well made and at that price cheap as chips really if you damage one. The new bobber with ape hangers has natty bar ends that look mint (to me) so thats another option when they come out. image.jpeg

Personally I quite like the 'Sticky up' standard mirrors on my Bonnie.
You get good visibility without having to look down, no vibration and they are not stuck outwards which makes it easier for filtering in traffic.
Some of the ugly mirrors that I have seen fitted as so called improvements are small, stuck out, bolt on things that look exactly what they are with the added disadvantage of having to look down to see the mirror.
Give it some thought before splashing out, the grass is not always greener!

The standard mirrors on my Street Twin are great for inspecting my shoulders and elbows, but rubbish for anything else. I bought a pair of Oxford bar enders off ebay for £19.99. Looking down I don't find a problem, no worse than doing life savers like we were taught. I like that I can adjust them easily on the move to check blind spot too. Here's the same on my SE, but with white rather than black nylon ball. The mirrors come in silver too. Never had a problem filtering. Bonnie I bought 3.JPG

I also like the standard mirrors fitted to my Newchurch, but have to agree with Rich that they do not give a rearward view beyond elbows and shoulders.
Physical shoulder checks are never a bad thing in any case, but I have seen that Motea sell mirror extenders which supposedly provide an 40mm width when fitted.
£48 seems a bit steep to me though?

Rich, looking at the photo would I be right in thinking that the bar end mirrors stick out about 100mm more each side than the standard mirrors ?
I do a lot of filtering on my way home from work every day and find the standards are quite unobtrusive.
I agree with Curly though, there is no substitute for a glance over the shoulder.

The ones I have you can twist them to sit above the bar and not be sticky out.

    Thanks for the replies.

I do like the look of the Triumph ones but not the cost.

I think I shall order a pair of fleabay cheapies and see how I get on with them. If the rear view is as better than shoulder and elbows then I will invest in a more expensive pair at some point.

The stock mirrors on my T100 gave me a good "elbow and shoulder" view but the stock ones on the SE are better. Good visibility and no vibration. The bar end mirrors I tried were actually very good for £8.99 but just too small and I didn't like the fact you had to look down at them.
I'm with Mickeng - I quite like the retro look of the standard mirrors.

It doesn't appear as anyone has fitted those Motea mirror eXtenders?
I might lash out on a pair before too long.

I've been looking at what's available and trying to decide on which of those is the 'look' I want but I'm not sure I'd use use retro to describe the standard mirrors in relation to the Bonneville. Pictures of original bikes rarely have mirrors at all and of those that do many have bar end mirrors.

I love the clean look bars but there's no way I'd ride on today's roads without mirrors no matter how much I like the look. I wouldn't even contemplate a single mirror after some of the stupid people I've seen in my near side mirror!

    The search goes on.........

Just looked on E bay, quite a few eXtender options for significantly less money than the Motea items

Fitted a single bar end mirror on the Enfield when I had it as it came with no mirrors at all. That was fun riding it home!

I was quite content with my OEM mirrors until this post was started, now it's got me looking!
I like the look of the CNC aluminium bar end mirrors from 3 pistons at £69.99 per pair.
    Anybody tried them ?

Well, on Friday I stopped prevaricating about the bush and ordered a pair of cheap bar end mirrors off fleabay.

I've been looking at mirrors on the interweb and fleabay for weeks, agonising about the look and fitting and whether or not to go cheap and cheerful or take the plunge and spend some money.

I finally gave myself a metaphorical kick up the jacksie and ordered a pair. They have cost £7.49 + £3.99 P&P so even if they're a complete failure they haven't broken the bank.

I can't imagine that for £7.49 they are going to be of any quality but if they see the summer out and give a better view than the stock ones I won't mind buying a decent quality pair later in year.

An email arrived yesterday telling me they'd been dispatched. As soon as they're on the bike I'll post pictures.

Hi Mr Toad, may I offer you a piece of advice? When your new mirrors arrive consider doing the following as it'll make installation easy peasy:

    1. Remove the original bar end finishers, carefully keeping the fixing screws;

    2. Remove the 'rawlplug section' and bolt of the new mirrors;

    3. Fix new mirrors with the Triumph fixing screws straight into the existing in-bar fitting (it'll just screw straight in) sorry I've forgotten the correct name for that bit inside the bars :oops:

It'll take you 5 mins tops to install your new mirrors like this....................................

Thank you for the advice. Having watched several people on YouTube fitting mirrors and deciding that this was the best way to go. And, as Donald has pointed out, if the bolts are too short a trip to screwfix will sort it although none of the YouTube videos I have watched mentioned needing longer bolts but I suppose that's entirely down to make of mirror.

However, I do need to make sure I have enough length on the bolt to provide a secure fixing.

Thank you all for the comments and good advice. Pictures to follow.........

My fleabay mirrors arrived this morning :)

It was a quick job to fit them and while they are a little smaller than I'd like, I knew this when I ordered them, they are surprisingly good and being convex give a pretty good view behind.

    After

I shall ride with these for a while but first impressions are good so the genuine Triumph mirrors, which are bigger, should be excellent. At £7.49 they were never going to be for ever but as a cheap taster they are superb.
