After I have now ridden a total of 540 km (320 highway, 140 alpine like roads, 80 in the city) with the new TIGER 1200 I have gained many impressions compared to my 2020 TIGER 1200.

The seating position and the handlebars have been slightly changed, which gives the feeling of sitting more "in" than "on" the bike. - Not uncomfortable! This makes the ride feel and handling even more direct.
The windshield is close to the quality of the previous model and is definitely better than on my wife's current TIGER 900.
Interestingly, the hand guards are designed smaller, whereby wind and bad or cold weather affect the hands faster.
Since the bike has become much lighter, it rides even more pleasant.

Riding the RALLY PRO model has revealed 2 specific findings for me.
A 21 inch front wheel is not uncomfortable to ride compared to the 19 inch wheels on the road-oriented TIGERs.
Off-road tires like the mounted METZLER KAROO 4 are not for me at all. I prefer street tires like the METZLER TOURANCE NEXT or NEXT 2. They just run smoother and I don't dare go off-road with my TIGER anyway. For poor gravel roads, the 90/10 tires are therefore quite sufficient for me.

For me it was very interesting to ride the new model and recommend to all who have a similar opportunity to test it.

After all, the reason for the test option of the new TIGER 1200 was to service my wife's TIGER 900 and my TIGER 1200.
We experienced a "not inconsiderable" surprise when paying, since some parts had to be exchanged, which we 2 actually did not have on the plan.

    TIGER 900:
    scheduled maintenance:
20,000 km service (in real terms already +21,000 km driven).
Exchange of the first set of tires (!) - METZLER TOURANCE NEXT front and METZLER TOURANCE NEXT 2 rear; mixed tires became necessary, the new METZLER model for the 900 dimension is not yet available.
    unscheduled:
Exchange chain set complete - defective
exchange of a front wheel bearing - defective
    Cost: € 1.280.-

    TIGER 1200:
    scheduled maintenance:
32.000 km service (real already +34.000 km driven)
Exchange of the second set of tires - from METZLER TOURANCE NEXT to METZLER TOURANCE NEXT 2
    unscheduled:
Replacement of a front wheel bearing - defective
Checking the clutch - will be changed at the next service at 48.000 km
This will be a financial highlight again!
    Cost: € 1.095.-

    Conclusion:
Our TIGERs are like new again and ride wonderfully. Biking is just a cost-intensive hobby!

I had to go see a client, so that's 100 miles paid for by work!

Blimey - chain gone after 21.000 kilometres? I've done 27.000 on mine now, and who knows how many the previous owner...

One of my previous bikes, a Honda CB1000R was purchased at 224miles and I had it until over 15k, plenty of life left in both chain and sprockets; are you sure someone wasn't profiteering here?

    True story;
My best mate used to be an MOT (annual road safety check) tester. 1st day at a new job the boss said I'll do the first mot with you to ensure we are on the same page!

 ( err he'd been doing the job for the last 5 years elsewhere so had a pretty good idea what was what).

After the initial dance around the car the boss asks what do you think?

Mate says, a pass for me, can't see anything wrong with that :)

    WRONG!
How come you didn't spot the leaking rear shock absorber?

    Eh wtf what leaking shocker.

Boss picks up a can of WD40 gives it a light spray and said, this one!!!!

My mate lasted until dinnertime on 1st day then said shove it :imp:

    Who says it was necessary?
    The salesman ........

Did they provide you your old parts for inspection?

@Eldon: Yes, they offered the old parts for inspection to us. There was a permanent rattling and trembling before the exchange which has now disappeared my wife reported after the first ride.
Interestingly, the spare parts from the TIGER 1200 are cheaper than those from the TIGER 900.

So as the parts were offered for inspection then maybe this wasn't a profiteering exercise but there appears an opportunity for a learning objective here for you; how often do you lubricate and maintain your chains?

I personally would have expected a longer life out of good components than what you appear to have achieved but my bikes live on paddock stands so a light chain lubrication takes seconds every ride before getting it out of the garage.
Please take this as well meant advice and I'm certainly not having a go but a little maintenance regularly can make quite a difference here.

Interesting comment on the price disparity between the two models parts, I wonder why that is?

@Bolosun: It looks like. My TIGER is equipped with a quickshifter but the clutch is in the last third of usage. Therefore it has to be exchanged then.

A quickshifter should have no more impact on clutch wear than using normal clutch lever. How do they know/measure the wear on your clutch. Did they remove it measure the stack height?

@Bolosun: I think they will change only some parts of it. May be the, I think it's called friction disk, or so. I will see.

@Eldon: We will lubricate the chain more often now. I hope this will extend the usage of the changed parts now. We'll see.
