I also noticed a lot of bugs out tonight, especially round crop fields. When it's reasonably warm I like riding (at low speeds) with the front flipped and the sun visor down on the Shoei Neotec but the damn bugs get in your teeth and they don't taste nice!
I'd never use tearoffs for road use but I've ridden with one of these on the all the bikes I've owned for years with a damp cloth stuffed inside. Quick and easy to use while on the move.
It 's an old racing trick some used years ago before tearoffs were invented, usually a piece of wet sponge on a string so you couldn't lose it. Wiping bug splat with anything other than a damp cloth/sponge is pretty pointless.

That's a great idea and solution, @Pegscraper! I'd like to try it. That is a tennis ball, right? So you cut the top off but then how do you have it attached to your bike?

Yes, it's a tennis ball with the top cut off and fastened with a zip tie round the bars. Just cut two small holes/slits in the bottom. It's cheap and works well.

Be very careful what you put on your visors. The visor on my first RX7 started to develop very fine cracks radiating around the Pinlock post holes and eyebrow vent fixing holes. Arai reported back that the visor had come into contact with some form of solvent which had attacked the cut or drilled edge of the visor which Arai didn’t seal.

What I hadn’t told them was that I had sprayed it with some foam cleaner that, back in the day, we were given to clean our VDU screens. So now the only thing I put on my visor is water.

Years ago I went to the old Squires Milk Bar at Sherburn-in-Elmet, they had a large dispenser of industrial wipes at the door for people to clean their visors. I used one on my visor and it took the iridium coating off, had to go and tell Harry to get rid of it before he got loads of complaints :(

I spended a very lovely morning at TVAM (Thames Valley Advanced Motorcyclists) monthly meetup... (Thanks to 'Santa' for getting me there on time )

Being new, it was all a little daunting, but I was made thoroughly welcome and feel I have found a new community.

Had a really productive taster ride out with Graham. I felt very looked after and hope to have my membership paid for imminently - especial as the current MrsB suggested I just join and pay from the joint account.:grinning:

What did I do with my Triumph Today?

Well, I'll tell you. I looked at it every time I walked into the damned garage to get another piece of lawn care equipment or tool. If, when I was eighteen, someone had told me I'd be spending hundreds of dollars and countless man-hours on my lawn one day, I would have told them they were out of their freaking mind and that I'd never even have a lawn. I can't imagine that when I'm on my death bed I'll be thinking "Gee, I wish I'd spent more time tending to my lawn." We just had sod put down in the back yard (wife's idea - not mine). You HAVE to tend to it, otherwise you'll just flush a couple grand down the toilet when it dies. I was happy with the dandelions, clover and plantain. They didn't require much attention and you could actually eat two of them. All three if you are a rabbit. But, noooo...she wanted a nice, green, carpet-like lawn. I'd make her take care of it, but she'd kill it. She is the worst gardener since Agent Orange. When we walk into the garden center, plants hide from her. So, at least for a couple weeks, until the sod roots, I'll be watering a couple times a day and playing guardian of the grass.

Hmmm, this seems like it might solve both your problem (time and energy) and your wife's (Worst Gardener of the Year), @Fork Lock. ;):joy: And it might get you back out on your bike, too.

My wife’s not green fingers either…” how do you know if it’s a weed?” she asked me one day. My answer….” Pull it out and if it’s got white roots, that’s a weed”
I didn’t think she would take me seriously…..
Two hours later half the flowering plants that we’d planted the day before were pulled back out and examined to check my theory…. She doesn’t work in the garden much now…:sob::sob:

A short ride out (57 miles) with the wife pillion yesterday through the lanes at a nice sedate pace. Good to explore all the local lanes, you know the "wonder where that goes" sort of thing. Dead ends a plenty but still a pleasant experience.
All finished off with a nice fish and chip ( big portions) tea at Selby, North Yorkshire.... recommended.

We finally did this last year, should've done it years ago. No mowing, no watering issues, no weeds, no pet or sex stains and none of that uber tedious trimming round the edges. Just give it a hoover now and again. Leaves more time for bikey activities. Win win win!! :grinning:

Started finishing off painting the tank badges but then abandoned new build as it's bloody wet sumping! Fluids are my nemisis....

    1.jpg

So trotted off on the chop instead. Couple of 70s Ironhead chops there but couldn't be arsed to get the camera out cause I was miles away thinking about wet sumping. Hopefully it's an easy fix.....

Looking forward to seeing pics of those 70s Ironheads when you figure out the wet sumping puzzle, @Iron.

Been mega busy, un-siezed the back brake, took the cam cover off to rub down and paint, and discovered head has been done, new cams and associated parts, think I'll pick 6 numbers

I hadn't ridden my Speed Triple RS in so long that I couldn't remember the last time I rode it! He was staring to grumble when I'd go out into the garage. But I'm off work on Tuesdays so I decided to venture out in the heat and ride over to our local Triumph dealership then pop down to Tucson H-D to check on some back-ordered parts. I didn't leave the house until about 1pm so it was a bit "toasty".:sun: Well, time to acclimate before the temps soar over 100ºF. :scream: This was what the temperature was when I headed back home from the Harley dealership.

    IMG_9029.PNG

This is the time of the year when I become what I call a "Shade Buzzard". That entails circling around looking for any bit of available shade. There was one tiny little corner with shade in the Triumph dealership parking lot and lucky for me the spot was empty when I arrived. :sun::cool:
    IMG_9006.jpeg

Inside were four Triumph Tiger 660's all lined up like guards at the gate. The salesman said they just in very recently and the blue ones had just been put out on the showroom floor today after being assembled.
    IMG_9014.jpeg

I continue to be drawn to Speedmasters even though I've never ridden one--which I'd love to do. This one had been sold to someone up in Phoenix so is slated to be shipped up to a sister dealership in the next couple of days.
    IMG_9018.jpeg

A beautiful 2022 Speed Triple 1200 RS. Of course, I'm especially fond of this model! And this is the first black one I've seen in person. Although enticing, it's not enough to lure me away from my Speedy.
    IMG_9016.jpeg

This red Rocket 3 was pretty darned enticing, too. And of course I'd love to test ride one of these babies! It's too bad that Triumph no longer comes around with demo trucks like some of the other brands continue to do.
    IMG_9020.jpeg

Before heading over to the Harley dealership I had a bag of fresh popcorn and an energy drink to sustain me for the long ride. Well, not really. It's only 5 miles between dealerships. :joy: This popcorn maker really does make delicious popcorn and Bruce, the salesman at AZ-KKT pretty much keeps the thing popping all the time.
    IMG_9023.jpeg

It was super quiet at the Harley dealership which meant that there were a few shady motorcycle parking spots available.
    IMG_9025.jpeg

Today's goal at this dealership was to find out what the heck is happening with my back-ordered parts for El Gordo, my Fat Boy. The service writer who has been working on my order since back in January has moved on to a bigger and better (?) job (insurance sales, I hear) so I'm now connected with a young guy who seems knowledgeable plus his follow-though is good. But the news on my parts was not good. I have three parts I'm waiting on and the earliest one shows a release date in August and the latest one in.....December. :p:mad: I ordered the parts at the beginning of January! Sigh. I remind myself that this is a "first world problem".

The dealership itself looks good. They've been doing a major facelift--new flooring, repainted walls everywhere, new baseboards, new designs and decor on the walls, less stuff on the showroom floor like tables and display cabinets. It looks updated and more modern. It did need it. Now if they'd just fix the sink in the women's bathroom. :joy: They did keep the lounge area but with less "stuff". No shelving along the walls for print materials and flyers, less furniture. But they did keep the old pool table. I think that's designed to entertain family members who find motorcycles less than mesmerizing. ;) I can't imagine playing pool in a motorcycle dealership, for pete's sake! Too many bikes and parts and so much gear to ogle. :)
    IMG_9026.jpeg

I've pulled out my mesh jackets for the summer season and tucked most of the others away for the next four or five months. I've also pulled out my cooling vest and will start using that on longer rides and trips. This is the Spidi mesh jacket I wear on my Triumph during our hot months. I think it matches my Speed Triple pretty well. And recently I ran across the Triumph patch you see here--forgot I'd bought it. I had it sewn on my jacket just last week. :)
