Hi all, I am fitting a new Top Yoke and higher handlebars to my 1998 Daytona T595 (see thread linked below). I knew I would need to re-route cables and fit new brakes lines to reach but I didn’t anticipate the Switch Gear wiring being too short. https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/t595-top-yoke-change.30008/ My question to you all is, do you “cut and graft” using crimp connectors or solder to extend? I’m confident enough to do either if needed but don’t want to cut anything before knowing if there is a better way. Thanks for looking.
I remember this on quite a few busa's and their fix was to reroute the cables BEFORE the forks and not through them. Enough clearance was then made. Worth a go? Failing that, definitely solder and shrink wrap.
Thanks for the suggestion but sadly in this case the switch gear wiring comes straight out the back of the headlamp unit in the fairing so more or less bypasses the forks anyway. Solder and shrink would be neater I guess! Much appreciated.
All sorted! After researching online and not finding anything I looked in to removing the switches from the bike ready for extending. I started by using a torch and mirror to locate the connectors under the fairing to see what needed taking apart and….Hey Presto! Each harness for the left and right switch gear was cabled tied, and carefully cutting these released enough length for the handlebars to move without stressing the cables. Result! A bit of ivestigation and you save yourself some faff. For future reference though, +1 on the solder and heat shrink option every time. Crimp connectors can be OK with the right tools but badly done they're the Devil's work IMO.
Agreed and as it happens I bought a heat gun and shrink thingies in anticipation. Ready for next time.
