well, fess up. you spend money on your motorcycle. or on you, for riding your motorcycle. or maybe on tools, for working on your motorcycle.

what did you last spend your money one? are you happy with it? does it do what you wanted?

    confess

i confess i just spent a weeks pay on a gamble.

i bought a pair of carburetors. not just any carrburetors, though. these are AMAL GP2 instruments, 1-5/32 smoothbores, complete with the 510 matchbox remote float bowl, original bracket, and cables.

they even came with an extra body and four extra slides

thats important because these things are traditionally hard to tune. they have no idle speed adjuster. so selecting the slide cutaway is critical. they were developed in 1962 and replaced the older GPs from 1954. never went on any street machines except for the 66 BSA spitfire Mk2, and they disappeared soon because people threw them away and put on the less fussy monoblocs or concentrics instead.

but they flow an astounding amount of air and fuel, and if you get the metering correct theyre marvelous. or so they say.

i have a 1965 T120 land speed racer that currently goes 135mph running flat slide keihins, and i need four more miles per hour to have the fastest meriden triumph thats ever been. im hoping these GP2s might get me there.

so thats the last thing i bought..

    what about you?

The most expensive thing I have bought recently for my bike is a tank of fuel.

Edit: Nice idea for a thread. I’ll try to think up a sensible answer but it may take a while.

The most recent items I bought for the bike were the LED spotlamps and the Dealertool servicing software. A new rear tyre will be on the cards shortly.

Unfortunately, the last thing I bought is some touchup paint for my Street Glide Specials front fender which was dinged when we had to ride through fresh chip sealing on a recent trip. I might as well say that the last thing I bought was the services of a painter because I know I can't just use the touchup paint with the nature of the chip (more like CHUNK) being what it is. Not the most fun motorcycle-related thing to spend money on, I'm afraid. :pensive:

I can sympathise with you there Sandi. We call it tar spraying over here, just a cheap quick way of resurfacing. On my way to the NW200 in 2013, I ran through a newly tar sprayed area in Dumbarton and got a stone chip straight through the rad which resulted in a missed ferry sailing. No NW200, no ferry refund and £600+ for a new rad. Bugger!:sob:

corbin! i was living in hollister when they moved in and built a brand new factory on the north edge of town.

famous town for motorcycles, going back to the infamous biker riot in 1947

Wow, Pegscraper, that's WAY worse than a fender chip. What a sorry mess that was...missing an event AND shelling out big bucks for a few rad. :(:sob: And really no recourse--of course. Here I run across gravel dump trucks on the road that have a sign on the back that says "Do Not Follow Trucks" and clearly for the obvious reasons. But by the time you're near enough to read the posted (and moving) warning, you'd be close enough to get a rock in the windshield.

That is a terrific looking seat, @Dartplayer! I've been looking at Corbins myself for a possible change to the Le Pera on my Street Glide. I need a seat that puts me a bit further forward than I am now and that has a removable backrest like the one in the photo you shared. But I've never owned a Corbin nor known anyone personally who has one. So I'll be extremely eager to get your review. Did you get the black and brown combo? That looks good!

A new numberplate as the original was huge. Not that I can ride my street triple yet on account of my MOD 1 failure last week : unamused: and long wait for a retest so the 125 for a bit longer it is .

As, that's annoying to have to wait. My other half was in the same position last year. Very despondent then but these days she's loving the Street Triple she rides. :)

The last thing I bought for my bike was...my bike. Although I am supposed to be getting a new exhaust soon. Which reminds me, the dealer never called me back about the ECU update...

Good to hear - I am not too despondent but it's quite a slog to get a licence these days, especially with all the covid - related delays as well!

The recent thing I bought because of my bike arrived yesterday and cost me 800 quid  I can't afford...

    1.jpg

I needed something compact to capture quality memories of bike tours and outings. My phone is too difficult to use in sunlight and takes poor quality photos, and my full frame DSLR is too bulky to sling around my shoulders.

This little beauty has a viewfinder so is usable in sunlight and has physical dials for control so I don't have to faff around with the touchscreen. Just waiting for the case to arrive because the only negative review comments (apart from price) is that it's not environmentally sealed and prone to getting dust in the optics. :(

The recent thing I bought that is more directly bike related was the compressor and staple gun for seat mods.
