Hello, 2021 T100, 1700 miles. I'm getting a light tapping noise upon restart of the engine after being ridden for awhile. It does not do this on cold start. Sounds like someone tapping thin braided wire on the side of metal bucket, it is very light, not loud. Goes away after 5 seconds or so and may or may not occur upon next restart, completely random. Someone suggested head is being starved of oil for a few seconds. Sound did not occur at dealer, they said not to worry. I'm fine with that. Also problem does not seem to be getting worse. Thanks.
Triumphrules01 Welcome to the family. I would not worry to much if Triumph think it is safe. Probably just the chain adjuster filling with oil. Do hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show the beastie to the inmates here in the asylum. Joe.

Spot on Andy I agree Joe's a solid friendly helpful guy, M64 is highly likely a very sad person who gets off on conflict, joins forums for confrontation rather than the camaraderie of fellow bikers, probably bikeless with zero consequential thinking, his cognitive skills are very limited by his sound bites. Still Triumphrules01 Lets try and get you question back on track. As i said i would take the bike back to your dealer and see if they can locate the problem. This topic has come up a few times over the last week or so by different members so something must be going on to cause it. I am hoping it is just a minor glitch and an easy fix. Joe
Concentrating on the OP, this sounds "normal" to me. If it's doing it randomly while running then that isn't and the tensioner needs removing and checking for defects and correct operation. It uses oil pressure to maintain a working tension on the chain but also uses a spring with grooves and a spring clip on the plunger to stop it fully retracting and to keep some tension on the chain when the engine isn't running. My Street Scrambler does it regularly on hot or cold start but it lasts for barely a second or so. I had a similar problem but worse on the Husaberg from, almost, brand new. I opted to fit an after market, manual adjuster which is much more reliable but needs more careful setting up. I agree, the first time you hear it is an "oh shit" moment. I also mentioned it to my dealer but let it go when I found out it was a hydraulic tensioner.
Thanks @Pegscraper. My Thruxton R started making this noise as well, mainly on warm starts. I didn't realise they used a hydraulic tensioner. I shall rest assured that it is just due to oil pressure building up in the tensioner and nothing is being damaged.
