I ordered a Triumph centre stand for my Street Twin from Triumph Carlisle (K.C.Superbikes), and they texted me yesterday to say that it had come in. While I knew I could have fitted it myself, I also knew it would likely be a skinned knuckle sweary job getting the spring stretched into place, so I asked how much for them to fit it, and was told it would be £30. I thought it was probably worth 30 quid to avoid the hassle, so I arranged to take it in this morning. I was given a free cup of OK coffee, and had a friendly chat with the service manager while the stand was fitted. In the event, it only took about 15 minutes, and, as it had taken so little time, they only charged me £12 (£10 + VAT) for the fitting. Knowing that I was expecting to pay £30, I suspect that a lot of dealers would have charged me the thirty regardless, so it was good to be treated so fairly. So thanks guys.
I know. You get so used to being ripped off at every opportunity, that it's a pleasant surprise when someone behaves decently.
Good to hear that . Got a letter from Triumph today ... As of 31st July Triumph Glasgow will no longer be representing Triumph . Four nearest dealers Edinburgh,Aberdeen ,Carlisle and Newcastle.........my dealings with TG were well under par .
Good to hear of the "honest dealer" - seem to be as rare as hen's teeth these days. My nearest Triumph dealer is 2 days ride from here - so hopefully the new Bonnies are like Hondas! Also, I do my own maintenance (will have a go at anything, and have done since getting ripped off back in the early 1980's - they wouldn't give me the bike keys unless I paid the crazy bill (new bike first service etc., no warranty unless you pay this...etc., etc.)
I was going to do my own maintenance (am capable) but I believe for something as simple as a brake fluid change for my triumph T100 it must go into a dealer and connected to a computer(ABS procedure)....please someone correct me if am wrong....Thanks
I've been riding and generally looking after my own bikes for 54 years now, and manage fine with my two classics (1949 and 1979), but I admit I'm nervous about doing much to my Street Twin in case it buggers up the electronics. (Not that I've needed to do anything, to be fair.) Ah, progress...
Funny this. I was just going to say the same for the Bulldog Triumph staff in Winersh Reading. Purchased some bits from them over the phone. Andy said Joe don't worry about postage I will drop the bits of for you as I go your way quite often. And a couple of times I have had my bike picked up by Steve who said there will be a small charge but it was pennies. And every time I go there some of the boys says things like I gave your brakes a service for you no charge. And just little things that make you think these boys do care. Joe.
It's good to be able to share this kind of information, Joe. The good dealers will hopefully be rewarded with more business, and the bad ones can be avoided.
Dave49 I second that all the way. What I like about Bulldog is they treat you like you know what you are talking about and try to find an Answer to suit. Joe.
I've had good service from A1 Triumph at York even though I didn't buy my bike from them. Even warranty work has been done with a smile.
I would also support a good shout out for KC Superbikes in Carlisle. Craig the service manager always goes the extra mile. For example I had the common puzzle with condensation in the clocks on my 2016 Thruxton R. Craig sorted out a replacement set and organised the fitting of them, sadly they forgot to reset the service indicator and 500 miles later the "spanner" came up. I rang Craig and he said no worries next time you are passing drop in and we will reset it in 5 mins. Dropped in a week later to get the service indicator removed ......... when I came to collect the bike Craig said "I have ordered another new set of clocks they are still not right". I had not noticed the drop of condensation on the inside of the clock faces but he did! Would not hesitate to recommend giving them a call with regards any Triumph queries.
Apart from the occasional opportunity to check out some shiny bikes I too feel Triumph Glasgow demise is no loss. Attitude of staff left lot to be desired. Stopped using them after they buggered my bike for the third time. ABS brake bleed can be done with Tuneecu.
Yes there are some not so favourable dealers out there and no need for it we keep them in a job so if as poor as stated then it is no loss. The Bulldog boys in Winnersh i can't speak highly enough about. They are so friendly and helpful. I had to check i didn't grow a set of breasts overnight. Spoke to them the other day and ask them if they would fit tyres for me and front progressive springs. They said we usually only fit tyres we supply but as it is you sure we will do the job for you. How good is that. Joe.
The brake bleed can be carried out just like a conventional system without ABS, the only thing is that you don't get the tiny amount of fluid that is in the pump as it is isolated from the system. What you could do is change the fluid then go for a ride and get the ABS to operate, then change it again. Problem solved.
