I have a 2013 tiger explorer xc that the clutch slips when you accelerate hard. Seems to be better when its cold and gets worse as it heats up. I have replaced the friction plates, total height of stack is within spec., installed new springs and new lifter plate. I really thought new friction plates were going to take care of it but no luck. Slave cyl good, good lever response, engages and releases good. Clutch plates look and feel fine. Any suggestions would be great

A bit left field but what oil are you using?? Is it a car oil or specific bike oil. Car oils have additives which can cause clutch plates to slip as the additives are designed to reduce friction.

Welcome to the family. Do hit the upload a file and show of the steed. You have had one good answer already. But what miles are on the bike. It might be wear on the driving plates did you clean them all an slightly rough them a bit before refitting. Also the bike might appreciate some heavier springs. Do let us all know if the problem gets sorted as we are here to help and I am sure others will have some good pointers to keep you going.

I use Castrol Power RS full synthetic 10w-40. That is what was in it new so I stayed with the same type. If I remember right the mileage is around 58000.0 . When I had the clutch plates out I cleaned them and ran 220 sandpaper over them just to scratch the surface. I never did mic the clutch plates but I did the friction plates and all of them were still within spec. As far as I know there isn't anything else that could be slipping on hard acceleration. Maybe I should order the clutch plates also. It just doesn't make sense but yet there is something wrong

If you are going to do that then do get a set of heavier springs as well. You will get it. These things are always sent to try you. And a simple thing is try the clutch cable to make sure it is free flowing with no resistance and the same with the lever it all helps.

It is a terrific bike. Thanks for sharing the great picture. And I do hope you get sorted soon. You know worth a try in the tiger section as well they are very dedicated there and love their bike and fellow riders. Just saying but we will get you sorted.

Well thanks to the people on this forum and the post i read about a guy that had an Explorer xc just like mine that if he accelerated hard the clutch would slip. he later found that it wasnt the clutch at all. It was the drive shaft turning inside its self. there is some kind of rubber filler inside the larger part of the drive shaft that the smaller part slides into. I am sure that it is there for some cushion and to take out some shock going to the bevel gear. I have some pictures of what i found that i will post. i think this is not repairable but if it is please let me know. where is the best place to find a drivshaft, could you let me know please
