To go along with this . . . there used to be a NASCAR racer named Dick Trickle (yes, that was his real name) who was infamous for smoking as he drove in races -and he drove a LOT of them. He even had cigarette lighters installed in his race cars.

Dick Trickle was a great driver, could drive anything, really good on short tracks.
Couple of good guys raced wearing wingtip shoes! Dave Marcis and Bobby Allison too I think.

Yep. I'd of loved to Dave win a lot of races but it just wasn't meant to be.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are "wingtip" shoes?

Google 'wingtip shoes'. Might be an American term, my Canadian grandfather I think called them 'brogues'. I wore a suit and wingtip shoes every day to work, standard issue - back when we used to dress for work, before 'casual' took over. fullsizeoutput_542.jpeg

I remember the Transatlantic Races when Schwantz and Rainey came here for the first time. They were awesome, never seen riding like that, but Ron Haslam was scrapping with them on a bog standard VFR Honda :grinning:

His parents were either drunk or had a cruel sense of humor. Maybe they thought it would have the same effect of naming him Sue?o_O
