Its me again! Lol. Stressing you folks out yet? I am ready to lower the motor out of this puppy and have a friend coming over Sunday to help me do so to play it safe. Everything looks to be good and disconnected. While removing all the connections I stumbled across this little gal and I dont see any missing connections and or places where it may have been spliced in. Kickstand switch and neutral switch I think are accounted for. So not sure where this belongs. I did not remove this connection, I simply stumbled across it. Sadly I got the bike not running so I can't use previous misfunction to trouble shoot what isn't working.
Looks like what's left of the low fuel indicator sensor connections. Check the fuel tank bottom to see.
DING DING DING we have a winner! There is so little left to the ones coming out of the tank I missed it on the first once over. I took that plate as a bung or something. Then after your response went back over it and you can feel a few copper strands poking out of that sealed area of the sensor. What a weird way to do it! Just two copper wires sticking out. Im assuming thats just for a low fuel idiot light right and not a shutoff of any sort?
I wish but he was correct. They were broken off at the sensor and there is no possibility of reconnect So I have to replace that sensor it looks like.
Glad you’ve found the culprit James. It is worth noting that on some models there are a couple of connectors that don’t connect to anything due to the loom being standard across different models and markets.
Yeah I've got plenty of those connection to redo for sure hah. But the one in question is white that I show in my first pictures. The problem area is here on the tank. They literally broke right at the tank. But I'm at least happy someone was able to tell me to look there lol
The low fuel indicator will not cut anything out, just it lights the indicator on the dash. Tape them off or, unplug and discard. I filled the bottom of the tank with epoxy to seal things off. Not positive it makes any difference. No worries.
It really does bother me when things don't work for some reason. Ill probably try to add a new sensor to my list of parts. Tomorrow when I get the motor and give it a once over ill be placing my order for needed gaskets and such. I'm anxious to get this on the road and get my wings back
Well I dont know much of the story. I only just got the bike. A friend who is a fan of Triumphs got it from a friend of his in non running condition. It was supposed to be a head swap that was needed. So he purchased it planning on getting it back on the road. He also purchased a head for it. He decided not to do it and I happened to be talking about wanting to get back on the road. So he said hey take this one and the head and if you get it running and like it just give me what I have into it. So in comes this bike into my life a week or so ago lol. I dug in immediately and realized the extent of the damage to the head, and that the purchased head wasn't right for this bike. So getting the bike and repairing the top end turned into needing a full engine replacement. It is entirely for me project wise. I will finish the engine swap and make sure she runs and then as quickly as I can cover every nook in terms of repairs. Couple of broken lights, vacuum hoses, and that sort of thing. Once she is running and 100 percent mechanically I will start on the looks. I am a fan of this bikes color but it is scratched and some are deeper and wont buff out. I will be painting the bike myself as well. I do hope I get everything worked out because for some reason I do feel like I have something slightly special. Considering its age and maker I wont likely see many of them.
It also has the ST rack on the back and came with the hard bag painted to match the bike. So my end goal is adding the side bags, maybe some custom ones i work up myself. I spent 8 years in the Marines so I half thought I would do a coyote tan paint job and some cool pelican case looking side bags but we shall see lol
Will do my friend. I am bound to run into an issue very soon I will need to ask about. Freight company just called. It will be Friday the engine gets here now so I may get to Cerakoting some pieces now. But updates to follow soon
