Double barrel query ... firstly my fuel hose connectors are plastic . On an 03 sprint RS wasn't there a recall to replace them with metal ones ? . Secondly I had the tank off to change the airfilter and schoolboy error I blame on lockdown forgot to photo the connections first ....does it matter which hose goes to which pump connection ?
Thanks , so now I need to know which which pump connection the red hose went to lol ...they fit either way around !
It doesn’t really matter which way round the hoses go on a two hose system as they just feed to either side of the fuel rail, however, the manual does have a diagram showing fuel flow should go from the lower fuel plate connection to the right hand side of the fuel rail and the top fuel plate connection receives the fuel return hose from the left hand side of the fuel rail (looking forward on the bike) I’d be fairly confident that the red hose is the feed, so bottom tank connection. There was a recall for the hose fittings to be changed to metal ones but they only did the hose fittings and not the tank ones. It’s definitely worth changing them before they break which then inevitably will. There’s loads of posts on here about which to get.
Funny that, I’ve had the hoses both ways round on my Daytona and it made no difference at all. It still ran like a bag of sh@t
I purposely tried it both ways round on my bike, just as an experiment and it ran just fine both ways. It's only filling a hollow tube with fuel under pressure to feed the injectors, it doesn't matter which end the fuel goes in or out of.
Hi swampy61, you might find this useful...if your 955i (sprint?) is the same as my 2002 Triple 955i: https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/big-maintenance-for-me.20885/#post-340223 It's a link to a post of mine that addresses some of the same issues, and includes a photo of the tank connections... Also there's a link to Tom Parker's for the metal couplings. Again, others will soon tell you if it is different for your bike to mine... When it comes to the actual couplers, I found them quite easy to fit, once I learned what to do... In case it is of use... When fitting the couplers: remove the little slide collar, pin, and spring...then you can get a socket over it. Use some PTFE or liquid ptfe on the thread. Do NOT tighten the coupler all the way down. Doing so can damage the mechanism. Rather seat it about halfway in. It is your PTFE that stops it leaking, not 'tightening it down'. I learned this the hard way from Tom Parker's.... Pay half a mind to how much the coupler is rotated, as you need to slide the collar back in - which is fine if you do all this with the tank off...but things will be a bit different when you are trying to actually reconnect the fuel lines when the tank is in situ. Finally ..I found this an easy and satisfying little jjob in the end .. And I am far from being a mechanic! Good luck!
Thanks that sounds great. With most if not all dealers being shut during lockdown I wasn't sure how to proceed but might give it a go myself .
Hi, to use those couplers do I need the triumph metal male coupler or can I just get the other half from Parker's too ?
I can't really comment I'm afraid as my bike already had metal "male ends" on the hoses.... I would suggest that it is indeed better to go all out and get them as well, however, I do not know how well/easily/what to get that would fit... I am sure others will guide you though!
