Has any one fitted a set of Thruxton Ohlins rear shocks to their Speed twin, if so is there any adjustments to make size wise, i can set them to standard to suit a ST from the Ohlins web site TR 965.
i bought mine new but where for a thruxton R and are a straight fit on to a Speed twin. i found mine on Ebay, an easy job to fit
Ady, did you set the Thruxton shocks back to Ohlins recommended settings for the ST spring pre-load 13mm compression adjuster 15 clicks and rebound adjuster 18 clicks or just fit and ride
i have set the Compression at 18 and the rebound at 28 which is softer than standard is i found the standard settings a bit hard for my liking , obviously you will need to play about to suit your needs. Cheers Ady
Hi Lessaint. Did you know Ohlins sell rear shocks specifically for the Speed Twin? TR923 or TR924. They are supplied with spacers and washers (bike specific fitting kit) for fitting to the Speed Twin in both cases. The Ohlins Thruxton R shocks do not come with any fitting kit at all. Recommended setup: 13mm preload, 15 clicks compression, 18 clicks rebound. Hope this helps.
Mops i downloaded both manuals off the Ohlin's web site, there are other slight differences, but the rear shocks i have bought are the TR 965 (Thruxton) and you are correct i will have to buy the tapered spacer part no; 60020-51. I paid about a third of the price of new and they are immaculate, I'm going to dry fit them today photos will be on the post later. once i have the rear shocks fitted as per the manufacturers recommendations, i will be looking at the front end , possibly a Speed Triple "R" Ohlin's set up (ABS), i know its over the top in some peoples eyes, but the aesthetics are very important to me and i like to push it to what triumph should of offered as a model. i have carried out these type of woks before on a XS 650
Hi Lessaint Hope the shock install goes well for you. FYI I fitted the TR923's to my Speed Twin yesterday and with the use of a bike lift was a easy one man job if thats any help. I had closer look at the tapered spacer and shocks on my bike and it looks like one of its functions is to bring out the shock slightly in order to stop the top of the shock from impacting against the frame mount. It seem some members who have fitted certain Nitron or K-Tech shocks to their Speed Twins have had this problem causing damage to both the shock and the frame mount. I'm wondering if Speed Twin owners who have fitted Thruxton R shocks to their bikes without the spacers would have had the same issue? Anyway I found this video on youtube which may be of interest. Front end Ohlins FKS 200 series but no exact model number shown. Regards
Didn't get around to fitting the Ohlin's rear shocks today, need a couple of items from Ohlin's to allow me to fit correctly
Loose fitted the rear shocks till the fitting kit comes (Tapered washers). a front end set of 2016 speed triple Ohlin's, on the way as i am typing.
who did you order the 60020-51 tapered washers from ? i better fit some to mine i guess. even if they appear to have clearance.
I'm hoping that the ABS sensor is the same as the Speed Twin and just a straight swap, i have built specials before i have had to design and manufacture yokes and other components before, see attached the last yokes i had made
