Absolutely, real heros. I have nothing but total admiration and respect for service men and women past and present.

Thanks for sharing this. We will Remember. God bless them all past and present. We owe our all to their sacrifice.
Words can't start to tell what I feel for our brave men and woman of the services. And all my respects for the fallen who laid their lives down freely for me. What a great thread.
    My Thanks.

I recognise the poppies from the Tower Of London in the top pic, went and saw them and bought one, but where is the second one with the floor display in a cathedral?
There is a small mural on a pub wall in Barnsley that depicts both world wars

Edit.. The second pic is of a display in Beverley Minster.

respect for all service personnel past and present. As for many hear I am sure, my grandfather served in WWI and my father in WWII and two of my uncles in the post war period.

I also visited the poppies at the tower but I also saw them on Orkney and I was lucky enough to buy one from those sold from the tower.

Just wondering about around Europe any remembrance to our brave fallen hero's. This is fantastic so much and yet to little to say we remember you our Brothers And Sisters.
    Regards
    Joe.

    This is an interesting read.

    https://www.theflowcountry.org.uk/stories/the-jellicoe-express/

I live fairly near to the station.... Its good that they commemorated the journey for troops to Thurso, then on to Scapa, but it's also interesting to read about the properties of sphagnum moss. Interesting to think that the moss that surrounds us here helped save lives.

:eek:Didn’t know much about my granddads WW2 experiences as he never talked about it and lived in the RSA.
After his death, my dad was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Yugoslav (now defund) government for services to their forces.
He had escaped a German POW camp and made his way to the home forces of Yugoslavia, who returned with him to free all his mates and others at the camp:eek:. Very proud

My grandad was in Gallipoli too, B company Anson battalion, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Came out of there and fought at the western front around Arras, Ypres etc. He died when I was 4 years old so don’t remember too much about him but fortunately my mum had his diaries from the war and it makes very interesting reading. Always think about him and the countless others who didn’t make it home at this time of year.

I am lucky that none of my immediate family fell in either of the two world wars, however my wife's great uncle fell in WWII, whilst serving in the Pacific theater with the US forces on Peliliu, serving with the 321st infantry regiment of the 81st infantry division on 20th September 1944.

My Dad, Cedric, was in tanks in WW2. Came back alive but past away when I was only about 10, so I don't recall that we ever spoke about the war.

My Polish step-father, Jan, and I talked quite a bit about the war and his role, he was in bomb disposal. He past away when I was about 18.

    Sadly no pics...................

My step father was in the Navy on the Malta convoys, He is back row 3rd from the right in the picture below.

This is my Dad, in the centre, usually to be seen with a ciggie cupped in his hand. Somewhere in Germany, don't know exactly where. 2nd batt. Seaforth Highlanders.

Dad, Bren carrier and cohorts, somewhere in germany..jpg
He was hit by shrapnel in the right leg, but went back up line fairly soon after, cos he had a Bedford 3 tonner full of 'pruch' (that's, erm, souvenirs to you and me) and played merry hell because 'some bugger' had nicked it all.

Years later he was driving our old series 1, and he starts cussing, slams the brakes on, starts scratching his leg.. There was blood, and a piece of shiny bright steel came out. He threw it out of the window! I said he'd carried it around forty odd years, he should have kept it.

It is very important at this time of year to not just remember the fallen of the great war (which was the original thought behind Armistice Day) and WW2 but also the brave lads and lasses that have fallen in conflicts since.

And also to think about those who need our help now, veterans, they deserve our consideration too. So often forgotten by their govt's.
