Well, I had the quickshifter malfunction when I was performing a high rpm shift manually. Some how it interrupted my manual shift and it false neutraled.
How can you tell that the QS interrupted your manual shift? Is it also possible that your manual shift resulted in a false neutral?
I was wondering about this and just disabling the QS on the menu. The problem is where the QS unit is hitting the linkage. The problem will still be there when manually shifting. To stop it, you need to swap the std linkage back in surely?
Steve has got the new linkage, so it doesn't make sense - and I don't see how the QS could 'intervene' during a manual gearshift to cause a false neutral. False neutrals can happen regardless of whether a QS is fitted...right? I'm still wondering what the benefit of disabling the QS in settings would be. If a service technician took my bike out, and used the QS because it's physically on the bike...but wasn't aware that it had been disabled electronically...well you get the drift. I'm probably overthinking stuff as usual
As I understand it, the false neutral may be from where the QS sensor is hitting the linkage? If so then that problem is theoretically still there when manually shifting.
I've lost track, was Steve's gearbox checked/rebuilt after the initial QS issues and his QS replaced? If not, then the problem may now be a fork shifter or gear cog issue caused by the initial QS clearance problem.
It doesn't help that there are two separate threads to check... https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/quickshifter-problem.17833/page-8#post-307491
Ah ok, I've been away, so still catching up on various threads. So a bit more to it than just the sensor clearance then
I guess it depends on the initiation of the shift. If you happen to pull the shift lever ever so slightly before you pull the clutch lever then the possibility of the shift assist being engaged exists. I’ve never had a false neutral since disabling the shift assist. If the part is defective, which everything suggests that it is, why would you not disable it?
Yes I have the new linkage. The day it was installed I forgot to disable it, as the dealer enabled it, and that’s when it false neutraled for the first time.
Maybe I'm missing something but my 19 (purchased July 18) has at least half an inch of clearance before the quick shifter contacts anything. Maybe the usdm model is different somehow or I just got lucky.
Pull the shift lever all the way up until it stops and see if there is any gap between the quickshifter and the arm. Look closely enough and you may also see a spot where the quickshifter has contacted the arm. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to matter if the quickshifter is contacting the arm, as it can still malfunction that I have found out. If yours shifts under extreme loads meaning high rpm’s and it works fine, then you may be one of the lucky ones with a good quickshifter.
I see what you're talking about now. I haven't had any issues with 10k shifts so fingers crossed I got lucky
Well, my local dealership received the new shifter arm from Triumph and they replaced the stock one on Saturday. The tech who replaced it took it for a test ride and all went well. I rode it home (using the quickshifter) and all went well--smooth as silk. While there on Saturday I talked to the service manager at length about continued concerns even after replacing the offending arm. He told me to go ride my bike, use the quickshifter, and let him know if I had any issues. At this point I'm inclined to go for it. I'm dropping a bunch of cash on one of my Harleys next week in prep for a big trip and I really don't want to purchase an aftermarket quickshifter for a bike that has one that I already paid for. Sigh. Steve, I know you've strongly recommended not using it even with the replaced arm. I definitely understand why and I appreciate it, but I may just go ahead use it and hope for the best. As you said to Screechers in a previous post, maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones with a good quickshifter. I'll definitely let you know what transpires.
And that's what factory warranties are for! Just talked to my dealer and they said it's all covered under the 2 year factory warranty and any of the extended options so why not ride it and enjoy it.
Good point! Though I truly don't want to go through what some of the others on this thread have been through, I really do just want to ride my Speedy and enjoy it. At least I know what to be on the lookout for now and if anything is amiss I can disable the quickshifter and get my baby to the dealership pronto. I noticed that you're in Minnesota, Screechers. I grew up on a farm there and my brother & his family are still there farming. My great grandfather emigrated from Sweden bought the original farmland from the railroad. Where in Minnesota do you live? Hope you're getting at least a bit of sunshine and that the incessant rain has let up some.
I'm in the southern suburbs, my grandparents have a farm down by Wabasha and I believe they are 3rd generation immigrants from Germany. So far it's been a year of riding on the days between rain and dealing with the stupid humidity. Just turned over 2500 miles since last July. Hopefully I turn over 5k this summer.
