Morning all! I have just acquired a 1982 T140w Tss. The engine has had some work done on it (and had a few goodies bought for it as well) The barrels have been re sleeved and the sleeves are sitting proud, is this correct? If so does anyone know how much they should protrude by? If anyone has any good links to technical info as well I'd be most grateful. Thanks.
I'VE only seen liners that protrude on heavy diesel engines. Never heard of it on small engines such as motor cycles. On diesels it helps hold compression by providing protection to Head gasket.
Interesting, never seen one apart. Poss that is how they are as other 8 valves used copper rings to seal heads.
I’m not really sure, I know they had an issue with sealing so maybe the previous owner thought it may be better to leave the sleeves a little proud to help? This is all new to me, only ever had std T140’s before
You could try contacting Terry as i,m sure he has worked on these. https://triumphbonneville120.co.uk/
The heads are recessed as standard as the use a ‘cooper’ ring instead of a head gasket. They are like the copper exhaust sealing rings you get on jap bikes.

Chilly. No they are to proud. There are some people that still work on the TSS. I love them. There is a chap on ebay called Bonnie Tyler he sells the stickers and he is tops for rebuilding them. He purchased my TSS. there Is also Cosmo Classics. He is tops on the TSX. One thing I will advise you to do when rebuilding the head scrap those washers and replace with with 3 / 4 though compression washers you will never have a leaking head again. As it was never the heads it was the oil pressurising up the studs and forcing its way out around the studs. I love the TSS it to me was one of the best bike produced by Triumph and they handle fantastically. Hope This Helps. Joe.
Thought I was told that the liners protrude which creates a firewall my 1970s trident triple was the same
Rocker. I won't disagree but if memory serves me right my TSS was flush with a recess around for the gasket. But really worth checking first. Ride Safe Joe.
Rocker you are right Trident liners are supposed to be proud of the block. I thought it was to help with sealing ie bites into the gasket.
Don't know where you guys are getting your info from but i can tell you that neither the 70s T150 or the T160 have protruding liners....having built one...have a look here..
