Hi Tiger riders . I have 2 issues here , I am getting poor fuel economy recently , used to get 180 miles before reserve light lit . Before winter . Now it comes on at 150 . I changed the plugs and installed a K & N filter . Also cleaned the stepper motor linkage and bits . Still returns poor consumtion ...other issue , occasionally when I go to start bike , it's like the battery is flat , I put on a multi meter which shows around 12 . 80 V drops to 7 or 8 V when I press starter . If I leave the bike alone for 10 - 15 mins it will fire up ? Some days I dont have any problems. Never does it when cold . Thought it was the battery , so carted a booster box around . It makes no difference when that is attached .doing my head in it is ! Chris ..

Sounds like a bad connection at the starter or solenoid. Do you get a click when it does it or nothing?
Can’t really help on the fuel consumption side I’m afraid, unless it’s a 955 Tiger then I might have a bit of an idea

Have you got oil dripping from the air filter? They need surprisingly little oil or you will be running rich......

No , popped the K & N straight in , as per instructions . Cleaned out snorkel and that little gauze filter . It was just fine before winter .

Mmm, does sound like a dodgy starter solenoid.
You need to check the connections as well as your battery connections I’d say.

An ignition coil wouldn’t make it turn over slowly, surely?

Wow, just noticed you’re in Blackpool. If you struggle with it I’m just down the road in Warton should you need some help. :)

Carry a crocodile jump lead as an additional earth next time it turns over slow. Attach it and see if theres a difference?

Maybe the return (earth) path isn't good and somehow the heat is affecting it i.e. expansion.

On the fuel consumption is there any brake drag?
Carefully touch the discs after a run when you haven't used them much.

No brake drag cold but if there is a sticking pad or piston then braking force could be created when the disc expands.
After a run i.e. when brake has a bit of heat in it, lift both wheels off the floor and spin up, checking for binding?

check the pads aren't tight in their slots?
With you saying it was parked up but was ok before maybe it is just a little corrosion or build up of crud.

A bad or poor battery can make the bike run poorly and increase fuel consumption , i've experienced this on a 2000 sprint, try a new battery, borrow one maybe to test this theory.
I know when I changed batteries the fuel economy and engine running improved significantly.

Never heard of this before but I’ve got a battery from my Daytona if you need one Chris, I’ve just bought a new Motobatt.
