    Well only 0.0001 gigawatts actually....

So back in 1994 I bought my first Hinckley Triumph (900 Sprint) and barring a 2 year Multistrada mistake had Triumphs ever since. A few months after buying the Sprint they brought out the Speed Triple,..... bugger, SWMBO was never going to allow me another new bike so soon. And so I’ve lusted after that black original ever since ....

    and still do....

So when the Speed Triple 94R came out I had to have one, in black of course. Had it now for nearly 3 years and loved every minute. Along the way there’ve been a few mods, mostly the usual stuff from the Triumph accessory catalogue etc. But a few not so routine....

Starting at the front and most obvious are the headlights.

The Dame Edna’s have always been contentious and at best I learnt to tolerate them but finally decided they had to go. In place are old school round headlights but with a future twist, I wanted halo DRL’s and LED projectors, this gets rid of the large bright reflector area and gives the bike a meaner look (IMO). The headlights now being mostly black with the white halo it fits well with the retro white graphics of the 94R. A push button (with white halo) is added to the dash panel to enable dipped beam to be disabled, the DRL’s are well bright!

Another irritation has been the pathetic horn, sounds embarrassing to use and looks just as bad, stuck down next to the oil cooler looking like an afterthought. So that’s gone and I’ve manage to squeeze a pair of car horns in the space behind the engine just below the fuel rail, relay is mounted in the battery box.
No more embarrassment when using the horn. bttf4.jpg

So finally to the back (it’s gone to the future), the standard metal number plate hanger looks a bit agricultural/dated and I quite liked the newer plastic version fitted to later models (I’m not a fan of so-called tail tidies). Took a bit more work than anticipated but is do-able, only down side is the old one was better at stopping road crud spraying up the rear of the bike.

Latest mod has been the addition of a gear indicator, Healtech have recently added an ABS compatible version that doesn’t require additional sensors (which put me off the idea previously). Only done a few hundred miles since fitting but so far so good, calibration is easy, just compares engine revs to wheel speed. Not as good as a factory fitted indicator (due to the afore mentioned operating limitations) but a fair second best.

Yes heard others comment the same, think I might put some protective film there.
Should have left the old hanger on, functionally superior.:joy:

DAMN! That is a REALLY fine looking motorcycle with some very tasteful - and tastefully discreet - mods and upgrades. Well done, you.

As a matter of interest, can you let me/us have a bit more information on how you fabbed up and fitted that dash panel infill above the clock set, please? It looks very neat. I've got a Street Triple with a similar clock set and would like to have a similar arrangement for a digital voltmeter and, perhaps, a digital clock?

I do happen to have a Mark One Speed Triple - no, actually, I have 2 now, but don't tell the wife that, she doesn't know about Speedy Naranja - because, like you, I lusted after one so badly when it first came out that I almost sold my '92 Trident for one. And it was exactly that ad. (with the Rottweiler looking bewildered) that sparked my fire. But, common sense prevailed and so now I have the Green Trident (owned from new) and a Black Speed (acquired earlier this year) and an Orange Speed, more recently acquired - you seen the prices of them lately? Oh, and a '94 Tiger and, of course, a 2010 Street. Can't have too many Triumphs ........ ;)

    Regards,

    Adie

@Adie P Hi, I spoil you guys, doing your research for you ;)........
Fortunately the wife has a Street Triple so I understand the relevance of your question (I'm comparing a 2015 Speed with a 2014 Street, so may not be true for other model years).
I've removed the flyscreen from both and other than colour they are identical.
    IMAG1093.jpg
    IMAG1094.jpg

So the Street has a more sculpted infill panel behind the flyscreen....
    IMAG1091.jpg

and the Speed is relatively flat (and softer plastic BTW)....
    IMAG1092.jpg

Fortunately for you the two will be entirely interchangeable, so all you need to do is order the Speed part T2302135 here

Once you have the flyscreen removed there is a single screw near the bottom to remove, disconnect the instrument panel connector and the instruments can be pulled off the mounting grommets. Under the instrument panel there's then 3 screws holding the infill panel. Swap panels, re-assemble, job done.

Hi Col. You, Sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you most kindly for that - looks like it should be interchangeable with my 2010 (and/or the wife's 2009) Street Triple!

Time to get the Visa card out .................

    Regards,

    Hello

I am new here and i know this is a very very old post but i see your account is still active so i will ask my question and hope you reply

The halo DRL’s and LED projectors you used are they a specific brand or just ones you got off amazon ?
You had them on your bike for a while now have you ran into any issues with them ?
I see you added a button to turn to disable dipped beam what cable is required for this is it a simplely connect the switch to the units or does it require some wiring magic ?
also did you have to buy brackets to install or did you use original ?

    Hi @The-_-Scotsman
Don't spend too much time on here these days, spend more time at https://triumphmotorcycleforum.com
The LED's are ebay Chinese in origin, I struck lucky with the first set, they're decent quality with bright dip/main beams and the halo DRL's are bright too. When later doing a similar mod to SWMBO's Street Triple I went through several that got returned as poor quality before accepting a set for hers, so it's pot luck finding a good pair, sellers change their adverts regularly so the ones I used on my bike are no longer listed. 5 years on and mine are still working fine.
To run DRL's on their own I simply added a switch of suitable current rating to interupt supply to dip beam (original bar switch still activates flash and main beam).
You'll need to research Triumph parts on the Fowlers web site or similar, parts from earlier Speed Triples are required, you'll need back shells, rims and supprt rings, and the shorter connecting bar. Connecting bar for the newer fox eye/dame edna lights is longer, so round lights look too far apart if used.
The more readily available Bates headlight shells didn't work for me as the mounting bracket is nearer the front.
I've since added more features by adding hazard light function and also selectively linking DRL's to indicators, but you'll need miniature relays and diodes and know what you're doing electrically to achieve that.
You can see the results here...

    Hi @The-_-Scotsman,

I’m in the process of doing this to my speed triple at the moment, where about in Scotland are you based?
