Looking to replace the rear shocks on my BPOS:confused:
After getting Avon’s fitted to my bike it’s improved the handling beyond what I was expecting :grinning:
However it has highlighted just how bad the rear shocks are :(
I’m okay with the front end :)
But the rear is far too harsh and I would like a smoother ride...better damping and preload and maybe (not as important to me) rebound adjustment as well :)
Quite like the look of PROGRESSIVE SUSPENSION (usa) but can’t find a uk distribution source :(
    Anyone know where to go?
    Any other options?
What you got on your Speedmaster/America?
    Cheers

    Hi Dilligaf,
Have you had a look at tecbikeparts.com to see if they have any shocks that would suit you?

I fitted tecbikeparts rear gas shocks on my T100 and they were a massive improvement for £90 at the time.

I put IKON on the 09 America, done over 60,000 klms and they are still good ! I had to put new rubbers bushings in top and bottom on both shocks at around 30 thousand because the originals weren't designed to handle towing a 200 kg + camper, got tougher/harder neoprene bushes and all looking good still ! You can get whatever rated spring's installed when you order them, if you want to sharpen up the steering ,,put longer rear shocks on, stiffer front springs and then drop triple clamps down the stanchions, my setup is :- 10 mm longer rears about 15% stiffer springs , front end is much stiffer about 20/25% stiffer short springs over emulators, with tapered head stem bearings, the front end has been dropped 12/14 mm at present (sag was 15/16 mm on original springs) this gives me much sharper / quicker steering ! I've been round Wanneroo race track (North Perth suburb ) could match the sports bikes on the cornering but not keep up on the straights ( no big bore or porting done then) handled the track well

Don’t think I’ll be doing any track days on my speedmaster
Like I said mate I feel quite happy about the front end at the moment although I did raise the forks through the clamps 10mm a while back to try and improve the handling
Since fitting the Avons the handling is massively improved and I’ve left the front end as is :)
My problem is now more of a comfort thing :worried:
When riding over large unavoidable pot holes which are plentiful in this bloody country the front end behaves fine but a split second later the back end sends a shockwave up my already fragile spine :confounded:(glassback)
The bike doesn’t get out of shape at all it’s just a comfort thing :p

    Hello again Dilligaf,
The Ikons are an excellent set of shocks for Speedmasters and according to what I read and have researched, they are well worth the money. Apparently, they will make your bike a much better proposition day to day and improve the handling as well. A guy I know has them and is very impressed. He reviews and writes for a motorcycle site.
Currently saving up for a set!!.

Still doing my research at the moment
Can’t really find much bad said about most suspension :)
Only bad reviews I can find are TEC shocks :(
Plenty people praising TEC shocks as well :)
Other problems seem to be people ordering the wrong shocks for their bikes....too heavy duty etc

Hi Dilli, you read TOO much into the mentioned trip round the Wanneroo race track ! If it handle's that well it must absorb the bumps properly !!! My bike is very comfortable and flexible, it can be adjusted to suit most type's of loads and use's, my shock's have the piggy back reservoirs which are damping adjusted via air pressure over hydraulic oil !
I am 56 and swmbo is a few years older ! We both have age related issues with back, hips, knee's etc, with the ikon shocks adjusted right for the conditions it's not an issue to ride 200 to 300 klms in an afternoons ride out .

    Bloody Hell! That's expensive (understatement)!
Over here in OZ they are half that price. https://www.ikonsuspension.com.au/shop/7610-1502/
    Between A$550 - A$660.
Maybe buy them here and have them sent across!

Dilligaf; A bit more information on Ikon shocks for Speedie 865. Ikon site indicated a Max spend of A$792. Depends on how much chrome you want on the shockies!
Still think it would be better to buy here and ship across to UK! upload_2018-2-16_14-5-13.png

Ok so I’ve just changed my mind  again
Can’t find any negative reports on these :) so I’ve just ordered a pair
Cheaper than the rest but it’s a cruiser at the end of the day and it’s not like I’m trying to improve my lap times or something
Got one of the original shocks off my bike and measured it eye to eye and it’s 12.5”
The progressive ones that I was looking at in BLACK  are 11.5”
Don’t want to alter the ride height either up or down so YSS it is :)
Hopefully I’ll get the smoother ride I’m after.....gotta be better than standard which might as well be bits of scaffolding bar:confounded: they’re that harsh :confounded: D0765EFF-C92C-4C5F-8CE7-3A75CB521DBD.png
