Background information: I intended and even spoke with the tech about swapping the Clubman bars on my Street Cup for a more traditional tracker set (like the street twin) before I purchased my bike and he quoted me a price of about $350 US. Apparently, I have to go aftermarket however if I just want to change the bars because the Street Twin uses 7/8" bars and risers while the Street Cup uses a 1" bar (I'm not sure the tech knew this when I asked because we talked of just swapping out the bars from a Street Twin demo). One large question I have is whether I can use the stock cables or will I have to replace them? Also, does anyone know if doing the work myself will void my warranty? Any advice, pictures, thoughts, etc. will be welcome. Maybe someone wants to trade or sell me their bars and risers from their Street Twin?
Just picked up my Cup and my dealer cautioned me that Triumph are being really picky about aftermarket parts and how they affect the warranty. That being said, they do have experience with certain aftermarket brands which they (the dealer) have no problem working with. Best thing to do is research the crap out of anything first and see what your dealer will vouch for if you are worried about your warranty.
Hi Celticages, I had the street twin bars and seat put on my street cup, there didn’t seem to be an issue at the dealers.
I’m not sure to be honest, I bought the bike from new and they fitted the bars for me. Would you like me to take a pic for you to look at? You would probably have a better idea than me.
This looks fantastic! I know it's what I want to do now. Can I ask approx. how much they charged you to do that? I believe those are the 7/8" risers to go with the Street Twin bars.
There was a deal on which was about £500 of extras. I had the bars fitted, Street Twin seat, grab rail and a deal on ‘bike track’ Also it looks as if I posted the same pic twice, so will try again.
It looks fantastic. Do you know if the dealer used the switchgear, etc. from the Street twin or were they able to keep your switches and add spacers?
Just an update...I decided to go with the Biltwell Tracker bars. They are 1" diameter and should be a direct swap. I will post pics as I progress with some verbal feedback as well if I run into any snags.
Snag!! Of course. The definitive answer regarding handlebar changes is this. The riser clamps and original clubman bars are 1" diameter in the center. However, the ends where the switchgear, etc. go are 7/8". Go figure! So the 1" Biltwell bars I bought are useless and back for sale on Ebay. This is why the 7/8" bars from the Street Twin fit the switchgear from the Street Cup. I would imagine then that the dealer, when doing the bar swap, also use the risers from the Street Twin along with the bars. Sigh
How annoying. Like OsteKuste says ‘nothing is ever easy’ I’d go and have a friendly chat with your local Triumph dealer and see if you can do a deal. They might want your bars for a customer build?
Yes I agree that the clubman bars lend itself to the bike's intended style. I am of the age and belief, however, that I would rather ride in comfort than ride as a poser. The bars are just a bit too low for long-ride comfort. The bars are too low and although I am almost 5'11" leaning forward draws me closer to the tank and further away from the nice wide part of the seat. With that being said, I don't think it will detract from the style at all and will make it more appealing to me....and likely others.
Update #999: Made an appointment with the dealer for next month. They came back with a $520 price tag to swap my bars to the Street Twin bars. I almost choked...That's about $200 more than I was quoted last year and more than I've ever heard anyone having to pay. So...I am now actively looking for used OEM Street Twin bars and risers to purchase if anyone has a set or knows of one. Thank you!
Hey all, thanks very much, because of this thread I managed to avoid a few mistakes raising the handlebars on my streetcup, actually used some old bars the triumph shop had with some older risers to match the size. The dealership helped me drill the holes needed for the gear, very easy in the end. Got a second hand seat while I was there too. I actually prefer the bike now. Basically, changed the bars after some neck problems, I'll post some pics
