Hi, just moving on to looking seriously at buying a bike now. ( mod 2 on thurs am - so fingers crossed). Looking at some older examples I noticed some corrosion on the bottom of the front forks - looks as though the aluminium is corroding under the lacquer . Is it possible to make a decent job of polishing these up and re-sealing them with fresh lacquer ? Has anyone done this and how much hard work is it? or is it new forks?

Lacquer will never last much more than a year. Looks good, but once a tiny bit of moisture is under it, it's gone.
As DD says, keep it polished, more effort, but not in the long run.

Fella that powder coated my ST alloys, does diamond cut and clear lacquer. In his opinion waste of time. Even the best lacquers aren't going to last very long.

Cheer for the info. I won't let a little corrosion put me off them ... I am going to go for favourite colour and lowest miles and best overall condition...
