I know opinions are divided on here but I’ve been reading how fantastic the GS’s are...

Thinking of buying a 2017 Rallye - Seems to have all the bells and whistles and looks in my opinion, I just fancy doing some Miles this year rather than quick blasts out on the Thruxton R.

    Any thoughts welcome........either way.

I can understand the great bike, but looks???? You definitely need help.
GS's are fugly as sin.. Those stoopid looking heads sticking out and lots of rusty tubes everywhere !!!! :p:laughing:

You not better spending that money on a new set of golf sticks?

    ;)

The one I looked at was a 2017 Rallye Sport with Premium Pack. Think it has pretty much all the bells and whistles bar the TFT dash..

All Adventure bikes are fugly it’s just which one is slightly less fugly than the other....The Rallye looks marginally better imo....

Multistrada or ktm look ok, but reliability on both is not brilliant. I know of both having had engine rebuilds before 2 years old!

Looking at Multis as well, agree liability isn’t great and still a harder bike to ride I hear. Also there’s a lot of them second hand and they seem to take some shifting, I’ve seen loads for sale for 6 months, with price reductions and still not selling. KTM is very fugly indeed.

I’ll check that out - I thought the Sport of last years was just the package, most of the 2017 models were Sport. Can’t believe they all had that suspension upgrade.......complicated stuff !

The GS is a great bike Does it really matter what it looks like,as long as it's a good ride..as they say you don't look at the mantelpiece when poking the fire;)

I've had three GS's an 1150, a 1200 twin cam and the 1200LC and they've all been brilliant. The LC is an awesome bike, the Triumph has more power but weighs as much as a battleship. When I bought my LC I tried it against the Explorer, the Guzzi and the Multistrada. I narrowed it down to either the GS or the Duc, (didn't like the riding position on the Explorer and the Guzzi was uninspiring). I'd have been happy with either the Duc or the GS but went for the GS in the end as I'd already had two and it felt like home.

In terms of power the GS has more than enough to keep you happy on the road, the only place it'll get left behind by the Duc is on a track and even then it'll be close. The handling is impeccable, I've seen people scraping the heads you can get them right over. The electronic suspension is brilliant as are the riding modes although I found I stuck it one setting and left it there. As for comfort it's superb, all day comfy and everything just falls to hand.

Looks are subjective, I'm with the OP, I think it looks great.

Go for it, you won't regret it.

It’s funny what you can get away with on a bike. Years ago I towed my brother on his broken down Honda dream 250 with my 400/4 from nw london to Richmond about 14 miles through the centre of london. The only proviso was that he would be able to release the rope in an emergency, we did over 50 on the A316! Oh to be young and carefree
