I’m selling my Explorer and am wondering which would be the best place to advertise it. There seem to be 3 main choices. 1. Motorcycle News (online and in the paper) 2. eBay 3. Auto Trader. Does anyone have an opinion on which would be the best one to choose?
I think it depends on price, E bay is i think better for cheap Bikes or if you are looking for a quick sale. If I'm looking for a more expensive bike I look at MCN or Auto Trader. That's just my opinion
Sounds like an idiot choice but what about the webuyanybike type thing? Bikes secondhand are on the way up so maybe get a decent price by now?
They are a possibility, if I stripped all the extras off and sold them separately I might get what I am hoping for.
Yes they offered £6600 for a bike that dealers are selling for 11-13K. I’m wanting 10k, I’m in no hurry so will wait it out.
They offered me £1300, for a Kawasaki Nomad, that i sold within an hour of advertising it on Gumtree, for £4500. Jokers mate.
Cost really, advertising isn’t particularly cheap. Though I may go for more than one place. Just wondering what others experiences were.
I have heard that Completely Motorcycles are buying in as second hand bikes are hard to attain. I believe they are offering good prices. Hope this helps
Was that as a trade in, or straight purchase ? Obviously you will get a better offer if you are buying another bike, as he already has a profit in that.
I buy and sell quite a bit (just household stuff) but my "hierarchy" is always Gumtree first, as it is free...and I am a cheapskate. If I used Facebook...I'd likely use that too; also free. It has never really failed me.... If I were looking to "buy a bike".....I would look on Gumtree AND facebook AND Autotrader AND MCN....and surely most people look at multiple sources as well...? so...why pay to advertise, on that basis, if you'll reach the same people for free? If you're in no rush, let it rumble on, for free, for a week or three on Gumtree...then/and try eBay if you get a decent "final sale fee" offer from eBay as well...? (don't know if that applies on ebay motors or not). If no one bites on Gumtree...I think that's because no one is looking; not because the buyer hasn't heard of Gumtree and you're in the wrong place... I recently bought a £2-3000 car and I looked daily on Gumtree/AT/Motors... usually I would see the same adverts on each... My only caveat would be if your bike is "specialist" or niche in some way....in which case a more specialist advertiser my be needed. Good luck with your sale!
Like you, i dabble a bit. So use Gumtree and facebook. Gumtree has beeen hacked to death, and is riddled with scam adverts. Chances are, within minutes of placing an ad, you will get emails and text messages, from scammers. So opt for emails only when you post an ad. Facebook has more than it's share of idiot's, with nothing better to do, they are dreamers, who reply to ads, that they cant afford. 6 out of 10 people that reply, wont turn up. But having said that, i make a few quid every week.
