Crispey. There is just more interesting bikes turn up at Alton on Wednesday nights. Like a couple of Norton Classic Rotaries, a lot of 80's and 90's Japanese bikes as well as earlier British and European stuff. Also I have sort of got to know quite a few of the regulars so there is a lot of standing around and talking rubbish which is always good.

Just come back from a 150kms tootle. On the way passed lakes, rivers and beautiful women - very pleasant run out in gorgeous sunshine.

Had my 12k service on Friday, picked her up with no shims needing replacing.
I have a set of replacement Metzeler's M5 to fit myself, failed at that on Saturday when I couldn't remove the old Maxxis Diamonds without risking damaging the brake disks. Took the wheels off and had the local tyre fitters do it for me for a £10er, they were even able to balance the rear wheel for me. I have a replacement shock on order with Nitron (the R3), will be two weeks before this turns up and I will try to install myself, but need to work out a way to get all the weight off the rear wheel, I will probably have to use a bit of rope and hang it from the garage roof!

As I have changed the gearing to 1 down on the front sprocket and 1 up on the rear sprocket, the speedo is way off, I reckon by as much as 15%, so I have on order a Speedo Healer, plug it in and calibrate it to the Sat Nav, then it will give real speed and lower odometer reading so the mileage isn't exagerated.

With new tyres and new rear shock it will be a different bike.

Ypres is a great historical place to visit and the Menin Gate at about 8pm (20:00hrs) is very moving.

It is extraordinary when you look at the town now to imagine that it was completely and utterly flattened during 1914-18, and then rebuilt in exactly the same style.

Went for a nice evening ride tonight.
The low sun did cause some problems but a quick change of route sorted that out

Assuming they still do it, at about 8pm each evening the traffic is stopped going through the gate and one or more of the local Pompiers comes out and plays different haunting tunes. There's usually a fair crowd there paying their respects.

Updated the ECU last night and reduced the speed by 15% to reflect the gearing change. very easy to do using Tune ECU.
Rode in this morning and it is over corrected by about 2% so may adjust this at the weekend.

Ordered the Screaming Banshee horn yesterday from the UK distributor, no confirmation email yet other than the payment confirmation!
I am tired of cars drifting across into my lane on the motorway while on their phones, drinking coffee or eating (or all three!) I ordered the split system to allow better fitting options, £99, better be worth it.

I am getting impatient for the Nitron rear shock to arrive, that is going to make a big difference to the handling. @ Clarkey, I will read your posts this evening and see how you fitted it.
The Metzeler M5 tyres are bedding in nicely, different profile to the Maxxis Diamonds fitted by the previous owner.

Oh, and loving this summer weather we are having, summer gloves (Knox Handroid) and jacket (Triumph H2) are now full time.

Agreed, visited the Menin Gate and Tyne Cot Cemetery in 2013 and Thiepval on the Somme last year - unfortunately not on the bike. Found a set of Kawasaki keys among the headstones at Tyne Cot and then located a a very relieved looking British biker in the car park!

Ah the Ace cafe, I went to the reopening, I have never seen so many bikes not just in the car park but down the road and in every corner as far as you could see, a very good day,
I used to have lunch there back in the late sixtys as I worked not far away, it was great then as well :) but most of the bikers cafe's we used to visit have gone now so it is nice to see at least one or two have remained,

I live in Kings Lynn now and yesterday I went to Fakenham for lunch and back via Norwich, a nice ride but today it is pooring with rain so the bike has stayed in the garage until the golden ball comes out, why get wet and cold when you do not have too :)
    Keith.
