Hi, What do people think will happen to the used prices of the older (about 2003 models) Bonneville's now that Triumph has announced the launch of a new 2016 range? Will the second hand prices go up, go down or no change?
Hi Jimbob, personally I don't think anything that Triumph does today will have any negative effect on 2003 values. However, because the Bonny range is becoming more and more fashionable 2nd hand values will remain firm.
I have a feeling older triumphs will become the bike to own for motorcyclists, due to the fact that you can modify and tinker with the engines. Rumours are that the new ones will only be able to be modified with triumph manufactured parts.
Following on from Crispeys comments if the new Bonnys are like my bike, TuneECU will be of no use at all. Apparently from 2013 the ECU's on KTM's were unhackable? So following that line of thinking, 2010 and older bike values might firm up even more?
It depends on your idea of ownership. If your a fixit man and tinkerer then the carb models will be of high desirability and keep second hand prices high. Possibly also can be said about later ones up to the pre Can-Bus system as those still can be meddled with.
Hi and welcome - don't think it will make any difference. Bonneville values remain strong - I couldn't replace my 04 T100 now with what I paid for it. Tig probably has it right in that carb and pre Can-Bus models will probably hold their value well.
On that subject - am I right in thinking that any Bonneville with a mechanical odo and trip meter will be a "pre Can-Bus" model, but ones with the digital readout have the Can-Bus system?
Hi Steve, mine a 2010 with a digital read-out was still accessible at the ECU so I think there may have been a period where you could get a Bonny with an LCD screen without being locked out of the ECU - ie can-bus operation.
Steve, mine is the first of the Can-Bus as I noticed Haynes manuals stop at 2012 and mines a 13 plate only difference is that it doesn't cover Can-Bus systems
Update: I've been checking part numbers of ECU versus VIN's My bike's VIN ended 429407 PFKL2644031 ECU, KEN4, 909, 360DEG, > 437492 **See Tech News 118** So if we could find Triumph Tech News 118 we might get a definitive answer? PFKL2028747 ECU.KEN4.909.360 437493**See Tech News 118**
