Well yesterday was my Happy New Bike Day :D After getting a lift up to Preston I finally saw the bike and the deal was struck. I have never seen so many gismos on one bike, before now I only had one bike that even had ABS :worried:. The ride home was uneventful and many of the gismos were trialled on the 4 hour ride (turns out I have about a 4 hour butt) including cruise control. It's fairly easy even in Sport mode until I hit 7000 revs at which moment it instantly turned into a bit of a beast, luckily it was a Friday afternoon so the horns could only come out on a very few occasions. Anyway here are a couple of pics from when I picked it up, note the Ducati Lambourgini in the window (sold ). It will remain a bit of a garage ornament for the next week as I'm on call with work but will get out and about when I can.

Well, I wasn't on a bike as I'm away for a few days with the wife in the car, but thought some of you may find the following interesting.

We called in to Altbergs in Richmond to look at their boot ranges including the motorcycle options. One of the major plus points of this company is the fitting process involves an ultrasound size scan, plus all full and half sizes are available in five width options so I'm sure just about any foot can be made comfortable ( bunions etc included).
Anyway, enough about footwear but this did lead on to a fascinating conversation with the knowledgeable assistant.

    20230801_151404.jpg

As they used to supply the White Helmets with motorcycle boots, when they were disbanded, the Army decided to sell the bikes off to recoup some funds. As Altbergs already had an interest, as a supplier, they were offered the opportunity to purchase one before they went to auction.
This is one of the genuine bikes and helmets used.

Based on a Triumph 750 but heavily modified for acceleration and jumping.

    An interesting side note to the above;
A customer came in for some walking boots, and when he saw the bike boasted that it was his in the past. He went on to explain that when they were issued, a person was assigned to look after and care for each unit, so therefore become responsible for any such future damage : unamused:
The shop did some research on the documentation and sure enough this guys name turned up.
He and the bike are second from the left in the top group photo below.

@Eldon I loved my Altberg boots - love the story attached to that bike too, a friend of mine was in the White Helmets, but it was possibly just before the dates on that photo - I had a peer at it and couldn't spot him anyway....

Today I solved my lack of a spray painting booth by using a 20+ year old tent that has been in the loft for the last 10 years.

I prepped and painted this RD350 belly pan with Hycote rattle cans but will need to rub it down again tomorrow and use a filler primer to smooth out the imperfections.

Don't be such a spoilsport. I resprayed the inside of the boot on my Ford Escort estate back in the 80's. I was shitfaced by the time I finished

Too nice a day not to get out and about on two wheels, if like me you are retired or have a day off work. The NS400 has been sat patiently at the back of the garage for a while now so it was overdue an outing. 20230811_121349.jpg

They say flies are on the decrease, but I seem to have gathered a fair few on the visor today.

    Lovely bike

I was at a 2-stroke meet last weekend and snapped this beauty there.

They are great fun to ride. I really should get out on mine more often.

I have been MIA for a week or so from here (sanity break from the internet :p) but I have been out and about on both of my bikes over the last few weeks a lot; most days in fact for fun and commuting.

Last weekend Helmut took his Multistrada and I took my Fireblade and we did about 450 miles with a lovely night's glamping in a Tipi, listening to the pouring rain and idly wondering quite how strong wind had to be to blow bikes over. The weather was shocking to ride in on Saturday, showery on the Sunday, shocking for riding on Monday morning and nice Monday afternoon for the trip home. All the same, it was nice to have a weekend away and at least my waterproofs are good :p.

You should have done a sun dance around your bikes while smoking dried buffalo dung through a pipe and chanting "ee" "oh" "oing" "oh" over and over. :)
