I just bought a 2024 Speed Twin 900 and enjoying it so far. What grade of gas does everyone use? They suggested using the highest grade (93 I think) but I'm wondering if the medium (89-91) would work just as well and be a lot cheaper. I appreciate your feedback.

@Peter IND, Give it a try. Won't do any harm. Bike will tell you if it does not by popping or rougher running.

What does it say in the Owners Handbook? If you haven't got one you can download one from Triumph's website.

I'd recommend going with E5 over E10 for all the reasons plastered over the Internet, which by default means an octane rating of 97+. Wouldn't even think of going lower, personally.

My owners manual described fuel in terms with which I am not familiar. I was trying to decide if 91 or higher was necessary. I have been running 89 in both my Sprint GT 1050 and Trophy SE1215, and they run fine. I don't see the advantage of higher octane in performance.

Any informed input is welcome, of course!

I think most bike owners in the UK, especially those with newer fuel injected bikes, tend to think more about the ethanol content rather than octane. To be honest I can never remember the octane rating of our 2 fuel choices anyway.
In my older carbed bikes I only use E5 because of the possible harmful affect of the ethanol and out of habit I generally do the same with the two FI bikes. But they should be perfectly happy with E10, which is what many owners use.

10% ethanol is probably all that is commonly available in the US, with some exceptions for marine and farm applications (the engines often predate the introduction of ethanol, I presume). But we have octane offerings ranging from 87 (most commonly used in most non-high-performance cars) to 89, 91 and 93 or 94!

Among those choices, not sure what is recommended for my 2011 Sprint GT or 2013 Trophy SE.

    Any wisdom to share?

Here in Canada I’ve been using 89 octane. I’m not concerned about the ethanol content as the gas is never in the tank long enough to be a problem. I pump and burn.
