Posting here as I hope it comes under 'gadget' The weather app I was using 'Darkskies' has been bought by Apple and is no longer available for Android Can anyone recommend a reliable weather app?
Just downloaded WTF, MTBskier. I’ve just looked it over and changed a few settings and already like it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Rain Alarm (Rain Alarm Pro without ads) for local rain forecasting. Rainy Days for global rain. You can make good self forecasts taking into account wind speed/direction with both of those. LighteningMaps.org for worldwide instant lightening strikes. Xcweather (data collected from UK airfields) for windspeed/direction, pressure, visibility, temperature and cloud cover.
I use weather radar, good if you ignore the adverts! The animated view shows how the weather moves over the day
Looks like a good app, Steve. Thanks for the recommendation. But I do have to say that I laugher my arse off when I saw the first photo that indicated "No precipitation for at least 60 minutes". That's a very short window of opportunity for a dry ride! Here in southern Arizona the app would probably say "No precipitation for at least 60 days".
Despite all the technology they’re all pants I use AccuWeather Darkskies and BBC Weather you get three different versions of the truth. If I had to choose Accuweather seems to be less wrong
They all just work off computer models, generally they will look at half a dozen different models discard the two from either end of the scale and interpolate the rest of the info so it will always be a best guess and depend on which series of models they use. That is not to put down the work of meteorologists but we have seen a marked reduction in accuracy since they have been told they must use this method rather than forecast by looking at the actual information.
Beeb forecast consistently out of date ........find it much better to do own forecast based upon what can be seen from the apps. Don't think they'd use Been for D Day weather planning......
@MTBskier @steve lovatt I have downloaded and installed bothe AccuWeather and WTF, I will see how they both compare over the coming days Thanks for the recommendations
I have deleted the weather apps I had on my phone and found a good one Hyperlocal Weather Has a map/radar function, daily, and hour by hour forecast I think it's from the same creators as Dark Skies so has similar functions, just different.
I have downloaded this and it simply sits there and won't do anything at all. Won't accept an input location and give forecasts like the BBC one does. Well, what am I doing wrong ?
Try raintoday, I have found it to be pretty accurate, I use it mostly for work so the free short term forecast works for me but you can judge what’s going to happen further afield by looking at the radar map
