Its VJ day today Folks, Respect to all those who served returned and those that gave the ultimate their lives so we today can be free
Charley Prince will be at the National Arboretum for a service at 11.00 with a fly past by the red arrows for anyone nearby.
I have the utmost respect for all who fought in the far east against the japs who were barbaric in their treatment of prisoners and civilians, no excuses.
I have loads of respect for any service men and women. Fighting in the far east was particularly brutal, and the conditions for most of those both fighting or captured were horrific.
Very brave men bar none. The true meaning of hero’s given the treatment from their Japanese captors ❤️
Grandfather fought and was German POW. There was a happy ending to that story, but he did not talk about it. Took a Yugoslav presentation to the family to find out what happened The men and women who fought for our peace have my utmost respect. We shall remember them
Brave brave people those that returned and those gave the ultimate sacrifice. Its a shame some of our younger generations don't think of these people when they get offended and spout off there biased rubbish.
When you hear the spouters gushing about mental stress due to various reasons; exam results, gender issues.etc etc.......I think WTF. What about being bombed and losing your home, what about being evacuated to strangers as a young child, what about paltry rations, losing your relations to the enemy, not enough material for clothes etc etc. Just grow the f###k up.
Say's it all. I can understand to some extent the yougsters not knowing, as far as I'm aware it is not taught in school. However everybody else there is excuse
We should never forget what those guys went through and what they did for us! Worked with a guy when I was an apprentice, he was PoW, still had the scars mentally and physically years later. did He would draw cartoons of the things he went through, didn't understand then. Years later found out one uncle died on the Death Railway, another died at Kohima. When you read the stories of what happened you can appreciate their epitaph For their tomorrow we have our today
