Gentlemen. Humble apologies but I've only just come across the core purpose of this thread - yeah, yeah, yeah, I know - call me Captain SLOW. But I AM older than most of you - and, self evidently, I also ramble a lot ....

Anyhoooo - having now worked out the origins of the thread being to list members willing to do bike 'inspections' on behalf of other forum members, can whoever is in charge, notionally at least, please add my name to the list?

Postcode area is TA21; I'm happy to do a 50 mile round trip and will try to provide a reasonable check/assessment and photo's (preferably via whatsapp) though it won't be a full mechanical inspection and I'd prefer the originator to make and/or co-ordinate the viewing arrangements.

The only problem might be that, if it's a Triumph and in good nick I'll probably end up wanting to buy it - I have "form" for that! - so it could be a very stern test of whatever vestige of moral compass I might have left?

BTW, I do think it's a fine idea - sign me up.

    Regards,

    Adie

Is this still an ongoing thing? It doesn't seem heavily used, but every little helps I guess. I'd happily sign up to help. Borrowing the original suggestion of info:

    Forum Name: Deaks25
    Postcode: DY2 (Dudley)
Travel Distance: 20 Mile round trip (Birmingham, Wolverhampton)

    Inspection level:
    Cosmetic (Happy to email photos)
Basic Mechanical (Bearings, fork seals, hot & cold start, clutch cable condition)
Consumables (Tyres, pads, discs, chain & sprockets)
Basic electrical function (lights, indicators & horn, battery voltages etc)

Willing to ride the bike = No

I'm a reasonable home mechanic and have a had bikes from different brands, so always have things on my mind to be watching out for: at the moment they are brake pistons sticking and battery voltages/charging.

Went with a friend to look at a bike & he took the MOT checklist with him to prompt himself on things to check & so I've stolen the idea.

    Hi deaks,

You're right mate. This service hasn't exactly been heavily used.
However we have had some great results from using it.

Both ends of the spectrum have been covered plus everywhere in between.

Shite bikes that weren't worth a 20 mile trip let alone a 200 mile trip. Plus bikes that have been so tidy the guy doing the inspection wanted to buy it.

Thank you for signing up to this.

I'm 100% on board with the idea & absolutely can see the benefit from personal experience: Bought a Kawasaki back in 2014.It was in good nick & a lovely bike (Was sad when it had to go), but the battery was knackered, so struggled to start (Was fine once it was going).

Had to travel from Birmingham to Brighton to find this out! And if it hadn't been such a mammoth journey I would have walked away as punishment (of sorts) for the dishonesty because I had asked if there were any issues to be aware of.

I imagine this is very much like a good insurance company: you rarely need to make use of it, but when you do, it is so useful :grinning:

I have previously bought two bikes on line and both had issues that it cost me to put right. which would have been immediately spotted by anyone seeing the bike first hand.

edit, Including the lying stealers that sold them.

Hi Sprinter, we will be moving to the Peak District in a couple of days, so if you could amend the list to read "Privateer Derbyshire". Many thanks. Will be changing my forum location too.

Thank you guys. That's a really good spread of volunteer inspectors :)

If your reading this thread & thinking about adding your name to the list? Please do so.
Nobody is expecting every inspector to be a MOTOGP technician. A quick look over the bike & some close up photos. Could save a fellow forum member a lot of time/money on a wasted journey to view a bike?
