    Hi All,

so I’m new on here so hello to you all.

I’m in the process of personalising my recently purchased low mileage 2016 Thruxton R.
In addition to paintwork, exhausts and a few cosmetic ideas I have, I’m keen to fit an LED headlight.

Typically I steer clear of electrics and am a complete muppet with such things.

my question is this. Has anyone worked out how to wire a led headlight with drl where the original DRL loom has a 3 pin connector yet there is only a single feed to the DRL on the headlight ?

the main headlight connection is fine.

My preference here is to maintain original functionality. I have correct connectors available so can make up a mini loom if required but don’t know where to start.

I’ve seen lots of threads with modifications for US owners but nothing for Euro models.

any advice or experience from someone who’s done this would be appreciated

Thanks. NTMU. I’m sure someone will have done this. I don’t mind regular electrics like on old bikes but once chips and control units get involved too easy to mess things up. Ive a few triumphs so will probably be on here quite often now. 2x750 twins and a 500. I’ll have to get some pictures up on here in time.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you want to retrofit Daytime Running Lights? A simple LED replacement bulb (which I've installed on both of my bikes) works great and provides both daytime visibility and better nighttime lighting.

    Do tell.

Rob. I’ve options on LED bulbs but I prefer the look of the LED units. Hence looking to change the entire headlight unit. The main one is ok for the main beam dim etc. the query is how to correctly wire the DRL component. The standard light has a separate fitting with 3 wires and controls the functions of the DRL but the one I’ve bought to change too only has a single lead. I expect on the standard fitting one is an earth and the other two are power and switching functions.

I have a connector I can use so just wanted someone with greater electrical knowledge to guide me. Obviously don’t want to throw up error codes etc.

To do the LED conversion properly you need to change the reflector as the location of the light source on a replacement LED “bulb” will not match the geometry of the old halogen reflector. Whilst it will give a brilliant white light for DRL purposes the beam at night will be distorted and could cause problems for oncoming road users.

Again. I am not looking to fit a led bulb. I have a complete led headlight unit with a built in drl. I’d like to know how others worked around such a light that has only a single feed to the drl part of the headlight
