    Hello all,

in my previous two bikes, I always had a specific place to hold a U-lock. My Yamaha TW had a slot for it in a custom luggage rack, and my KTM Duke had a holder under the back wheel.

How do people secure their Bonnies? Do you use U-locks at all? I find I always end up having to bring a backpack just for the sake of the lock, which is a bit annoying (not to mention not 100% safe either, in case of a fall).

I guess some people just use their saddle bags, but I don't have those.

    Any ideas?

I Carry good quality chain and insurance padlock on tail rack/bag, or saddlebag if touring

Thanks for your answer. Do you just tie up the chain around the tail rack? That doesn't damage the rack with the vibrations? Definitely sounds like a better idea than what I'm doing at the moment.

No keep them usually in bag with waterproofs etc. Chain has thick rubber sleeve around it (a modified old innertube will do) to prevent scratching etc. Some people prefer disc locks, but beware of driving off with it still on. They are usually supplied with a bag that fastens on bike. My wife has one on her bike.

I have a disc lock with reminder ( the yellow coil thing that attaches from lock to the handlebars) and if I use a chain and padlock I wrap it around the grab rail fairly tight with the lock sat on the seat. Seems ok so far.

Cheers guys, a chain wrapped around the grab rail seems to me the best option. The idea is to have the bike ready to go, and not have to worry about bags, etc.

@steve lovatt A disk lock was my first thought, but my previous one won't fit the Bonnie's front disk. Might look into selling it in eBay and picking up one that will fit.

Never wrote back an update on this. I did buy a large chain and lock, and now tie it to the rack. I'm still experimenting with the optimal tying technique, but am really happy with it - no more "backpack-because-need-to-carry-ulock" sad moments!

Hmmm, not sure the chain would fit inside it. The photo tricks the eye, the chain is actually quite heavy and large.
I did think about one of those for the front of the bike, though.
