Thinking of adding the Triumph Aux socket (A9828041, A practical auxiliary power socket for use with optimates and auxiliary instruments.) to my Scrambler 1200 as its a neat fit on the headstock. Can someone tell me is this a Din Hella socket or something else. I only want to charge phone so will need to plug in an adapter to convert. Or better still if someone knows of a usb socket which will fit in the Scrambler 1200 hole and connect to the existing socket in the headlamp bowl Not a fan of ten million bits hanging off the bars so not going to put a handlebar usb socket on, bad enough with the phone there.
I use a din adapter from the aux socket for my tyre pump, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cliff-Top®-Extended-Standard-Cigarette-Lighter/dp/B011BVEHYG/ref=pd_sbs_263_t_0/257-5587912-2314356?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B011BVEHYG&pd_rd_r=e5aa894e-9aa9-4406-a879-71813fbdf862&pd_rd_w=1MJqk&pd_rd_wg=Ii7Hv&pf_rd_p=e44592b5-e56d-44c2-a4f9-dbdc09b29395&pf_rd_r=J43XQFZCQ7KS6MHVSY6P&psc=1&refRID=J43XQFZCQ7KS6MHVSY6P
I went with one of these SAE sockets because my existing chargers, tenders, usb charge adapters are all SAE. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TBCNVTS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It fit the hole in the Scrambler 1200 dash perfect, but I did have to run a long SAE lead back to the battery. Worked out really well, but getting the nut on the back without taking anything off the bike took some effort.
After a winter and then lockdown I noticed the connection on my aux socket has loosened. At least I have to fiddle about with the Optimate plug in the socket to get it working. My guess is that the connectors inside the socket need bending out a bit. Just thought I'd share.
Yep, disconnected the positive terminal on battery and used a screwdriver to bend out the contacts in the socket. The optimate now makes a good connection, think the contacts are copper so quite malleable and expect I will need to do this again at some point. Certainly will be watching the right hand lights when plugging in, it was only when I saw no lights on the right and no scrolling the center charging lights that I thought something was up.
