One of my plug caps has a corroded connection at the plug end. I wondered if the leads are carbon or copper, as i am not going to pay the extortionate price of a new set. I am going cut the insulation off where it goes into the cylinder, and put a new copper wire through it. I am not sure if doing that might upset the ECU, as it could be a different resistance. Anyone have any input please.
Copper has the highest conductivity rating of all non precious metals and given its more physical properties is almost certainly the material used. I’d avoid an unnecessary connections (including solders) in any HT circuit. A new set of leads isn’t that expensive is it? Aren't the caps screw in and there's just something like Sikaflex glue holding and sealing the joint ?? I replaced the lead on one of my Triumph's , just don't recall which one , used copper lead and no issues , the lead is from the coil !!! So the ECU won't see any changes, as it is only connected to the coil ! It reads the resistance and voltages from the coil's , can't go beyond as coils are an electrical barrier !!
